Bought a Diamond - Good Buy?

I recently bought a diamond for my fiance and I was wondering if I got a decent buy.

The diamond is as follows:

Table: 61.0%
Depth: 91.9%
Crown: 12.3%

Eye Clean: Yes

I got it for $3000

The measurement for a well-cut 1 ct round is usually about 6.5 mm...? I'm not an expert but it sounds like this stone is losing weight somewhere. Also, symmetry is "good." On a round, it should really be "very good" or better.

The depth is indeed 61.9% (3.88 divided by 6.27).

Still, the diameter is that of a perfectly cut 0.88 Ct., or of a 0.90 Ct. with some adjustments on the cut.

The weight is hidden in an extremely thick girdle. We cutters would joke that you could have a truck-race on such a girdle. Imagine: the girdle is 7.1%, while the crown height is 12.3%

Maybe you wonder why in earth this cutter cut such a horrible job. Well, in fact, by keeping the weight above 1.00 Ct in this way, he produced the stone with the highest value in the wholesale market.

All in all, value-wise, you did not get a bad deal. Only, if light performance is of any value to you, you could have done better buying a slightly lighter stone, with the same diameter and for a few dollars more.

The diameter is a bit on the small side indicating the diamond is hiding weight somewhere. I tried entering the specs you provided in the HCA Cut Adviser and got an "Overly thick girdle" warning. Since you didn't post the girdle thickness, that may be one area of hidden carat weight.

From looking at comparable diamonds currently available on PS, it looks like you paid a fair price.
