Hello all -
I''m new to PS and definitely appreciate all the insight and info. Great site!

I just purchased this diamond (my first!) from Bluenile for an engagement ring. Given the varying plus/minus discussion of BN on this site, I thought I''d go for it, since the price seems to be comparable to the other vendors here at PS. But some say Bluenile is overpriced. I really appreciated their ease of ordering, though.

.95 carat Round
Color Grade G
Clarity Grade VS1
Depth 62.1 %
Table 55 %
Measurements 6.29 x 6.33 x 3.92 mm
Girdle Medium, faceted
Polish Very Good
Symmetry Very Good
Culet None
Fluorescence None
Report GIA dossier from 8/11/04 w/ laser inscription
PRICE $5,043 - $100 discount = $4943

Any opinions on this diamond while I''m waiting to receive it and within the 30 day return? Sorry I don''t have crown and pavilion angles. I had it set in their platinum tapered cathedral setting (added $550).

THANK YOU FOR ANY ADVICE!
Erik

Looks a bit deep to me. Hard to get an exact idea of where you might be without the crown/pav angles.

Hope it works out!

What Wonka said. Looks a little deep. Did you get the Sarin info from BN? They will provide it by request...

Hi kwake and welcome to Pricescope.

The depth % just makes the ideal range. Request the SARIN report to put yourself at ease. If they did not run the report prior to shipment, it might be harder to get hold of it.

The bottom line is that if you love the diamond, go for it!!

Thanks for the tips and feedback!

I did indeed request the Sarin report from BN (they were very receptive and prompt) and as the few of you guessed, the stone was deep according to HCA:

The sarin report:
Depth: 62.2
Table: 56.4 (incidentally, quite different than the GIA cert of 55% - why?)
Crown angle: 35.1
Pavilion angle: 41.3

HCA Grade: 4.3
Light return: Very good
Fire: Fair
Scintillation Fair
Spread: Very good

I'm very new at this, but I would guess that this wouldn't be a great diamond to purchase...

Here's an alternate I think I'm going to get as an alternate to the above. Feedback appreciated!

.92 carat round brilliant
G/VS2 (crystal, cloud)
Polish and Symmetry: Very good, very good
Girdle: very thn to med
No Fluorescence
Sarin report:
Depth: 60.3
Table: 57.2
Crown angle: 34
Pav angle: 40.9

HCA: 1.1
Light return: Excellent
Fire: Excellent
Scintillation: Excellent
Spread: Excellent

Seems like a better value than the original, yea? Especially since the measurements make the diameter of this one is slightly bigger than the .95 carat.

Any comments/advice? Thanks!

Erik

Looks good to me! Good job

Looks like you might just have a winner :-)

This is a perfect example of how a smaller carat diamond will actually look "bigger" because of its excellent proportions and cut. You will most likely get more bang for the buck out of this one!

Great job!!!
