When I was hunting for a spinel for my grandmother's bracelet, I saw this auction by Tan. Well, I put a small bid on it... and won :D for less than $20 USD (including shipping) I am the proud owner of this blue fireball! Tan listed it as "purple" it may go purple in incandescent light (I'll have to see tonight) but man is it blue in the sun!

.81ct VS1 Pear 7.1x5.3x3.3mm Tone: 6 Medium Dark Origin: Tanzania Hue: P (it's blue, I swear!) Saturation: 5 Strong.

It's a little lackluster in diffused light and yet to know what it does in incandescent, but if it's direct sunlight it is stellar!

Wow! Awesome buy! I love it. It packs such a punch. I can't believe how cheap you got it. You must be on cloud 9!

That's really pretty, looks like a perfect blue rain drop!

What a terrific buy! The whole thing is a Christmas present from the Jewel Gods.

Fantastic! I think other than diamonds spinels are my favorite. Congrats!

Davi... I think Tan has deceived you... pulled this well-known trick. Sold you a better stone!

Wow, can’t beat that for $20!

Tan runs several eBay gemstores like vvs1gems, gemburionline and odysseygems.

Thanks all! I am very happy with it. I brought it into work with me last night to see how it does in well lit indoor spaces and man, I am very pleased! It holds its color very well indoors. The only time it's a little bleh is very diffused sunlight.

I asked my coworkers who know nothing about gems, my spinel from Dana and the pear. They all said the pear looked better. :errrr: I love both stones, but the pear has posed quite the conundrum. Do I switch the stone in my design for my grandmother's bracelet?

I'll have to wait until a nice day to take side by side pictures of both stones, so you all can help me decide

Wow, that's a sparkler! As for deciding between the two, keep in mind that the pear doesn't perform well in diffused lighting...does the stone from Dana do better?

Beautiful blue colour, great buy!

Some people are just unbelievable lucky! Davi it's awesome... Great buy, great eye. ;)

I love the shape, and the color in sunlight is wonderful! I can't remember if you are planning on bezeling the stone you choose for your g'ma's bracelet, but if you are, you might try the aluminum foil wrap trick with both stones to see which one performs better. Aside from that, look at both stones side by side in different light conditions and see which has better performance over all. The pear is great in sunlight, so how much time does your grandmother spend in the direct sun? If she's going to be showing it off indoors or in diffused sunlight, that might be something you want to take into consideration.
