Hello All,

Does anyone have any insight into Blue Nile. I''ve been checking out their website and they seem to have some great prices, very close to the prices of wholesalers on this site. Also, i ran some of the stats of their Ideal cut stones into the HCA tool and they score very well.

Does anyone have any good or bad info that they''d like to share?

thanks!

BN do not offer images that many discerning diamond buyers want, such as Idealscope images, ASET or photographs. Also they usually don''t have the diamonds in house. However they do have a good reputation and personally I have found them to be very helpful.

Ditto. Also something to consider is that they have no upgrade policy, which is always a nice thing to have IMO. I have bought small things from them though and been very happy with the customer service and the quality. It just puts a bit more burden on the buyer because they do stock a number of "ideal" stones that aren''t so ideal, so you always need to check each one out yourself.

Wholesalers?
There are no wholesalers here.
Vendors here sell to the public.

Yes I forgot to address this earlier, thanks Moh, there are no wholesalers here.

I think bluenile is good to buy from if it is a round you are buying.

thanks for the info!

The part that i like about BN is that they have the GIA reports clearly scanned in for almost all their diamonds. I''m looking to get a 1.5ct H-J VS1-SI1. Is an Idealscope image necessary for a purchase such as this one, or can i be confident if the table and depth dimensions score less than 2 on the HCA? I''m a novice at rockytalky, does any of this make sense?

yeah, no images = no business from me. plus, they don''t have an upgrade policy. you''re better off going with James Allen, whiteflash or GOG. Good luck!

ASET images are crucial in my opinion as are detailed photos otherwise you have no way of knowing what you will get when you open the box...

HCA only works for round diamonds. Table and depth are not enough info either as this doesn't tell you anything about how well cut a diamond is.

Also if you check out some of the vendors who have in house diamonds such as Wink, Whiteflash, GOG etc, they also have the grading reports scanned in and often a whole lot more in the way of info on each diamond.

I hate to ask but what is an ASET image?

Unfortunately, price is a big factor for me - budget constraints

.. What vendors would you recommend that are reputable and are competitive pricewise to BN?

I''m most likely going to buy the ring and stone from the vendor and was hoping that they had a nice selection

A ring of this type is what i''m interested in.

I bought a ring from them. Aside from a fantastic price, the diamond is a real beauty!

Would an ASET image been more helpful? Probably, but with their easy returns if you''re unsure about the diamond, it''s easy to buy and take to an appraiser . Additionally, the no upgrade policy didn''t really matter to me. I feel the diamond you buy at the beginning is one you keep forever. Once you move up a couple of tax brackets and want to get a bigger diamond you can always look back to where you started.

For me, ASET and Idealscope images are a MUST. They are the best way to see light loss/leakage and will give you a good feel for how a stone will perform.

My fiance bought my gorgeous engagement ring from them. It is a radiant stone and it is absolutely perfect. It couldn''t be more gorgeous, it sparkles like crazy! We were very happy with their customer service, prices and product. They do not have some of the other things that some PSers MUST have, but it is true that their returns are VERY easy! I even did one return internationally for them to fix my ring after I had damaged it and they were more then amazing!! I have nothing but great things to say about Bluenile. But if upgrading and the images are important to you, and to some it is, then maybe Bluenile isn''t for you. To each their own.

Don't feel bad for asking, an ASET is a reflector image which is very useful to view light return in fancy shape diamonds particularly.

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/why-we-prefer-aset-to-ideal-scope-with-fancy-shapes.73949/

And check out the previously mentioned vendors if you wish as they supply more info on their diamonds.

Like missjaxon, I am very, very happy with my fiance''s Blue Nile purchase. It is the lovely ring in my avatar (<--).

That said, if I were personally buying another stone now, I would go with a Pricescope vendor like Whiteflash, Winfield''s, or Good Old Gold (those are just off the top of my head) so I could be a little more sure of what I was getting, as Lorelei, neatfreak, and others have described above.

We got an amazing stone from Blue Nile, but I did feel like we got a little lucky with the purchase. At the time, my fiance did receive some close-up photos from them, but this is unusual, apparently, so most of the time, you''d be operating without that extra information when purchasing from them. This is not to say that you shouldn''t buy from them if you want to--I have only positive things to say about our experience with them. However, consider the other options presented to you here as well.

Good luck with your purchase!

thanks!
My center stone is from Blue Nile and I love it!!!! I had to a totally positive experience with them and would highly recommend them.

If it was a round I was buying I would not think twice about going to bluenile(if they had exactly what I wanted in my price range), You have tons of time to get the diamond home to see if you really like it. Although if I did buy from them I would buy an IS.
