Recently i found a platinum diamond ring i like. However, when i use loupe to look at it closely. I found there is dark line between prong and diamond, almost between every prongs and diamond. I don't think that dark line/stain is on diamond itself since the diamond clarity is VS1. I wonder if that is normal? If it is stain, is it removable? The other ring does not have it, but that diamond quality is not as good.

Thanks for your help in advance.

can you post pictures, or further describe the 'line'?

Sometimes prongs are not completely filed down, and you will see some roughness at the edge of the prong that could look like a dull line - I wonder if that's what you're seeing? a good jeweller should be able to take care of this for you.

It is not dull line to me. It is more of a black line which attach very close to the prongs.

It is likely left over polishing compound that was not removed in the final cleaning process. Point out the discoloration to the jeweler and see if they can just clean it off in the ultrasonic or steamer.

Ditto, this should take care of it.

I took a look at the diamond ring again. Only one prong does not have the black line, every other prongs has the black lines (total 6 prongs). The blackline is quite noticeable. I don't think i shall bother to buy it. Thanks for all the feedback.

Did you get it cleaned?
