Birthstone inside shank of engagement ring... HELP!

I have decided to have her birthstone put inside the engagement ring as an added touch.

The jeweler I am using responded to me yesterday saying that the ruby is large enough that he wants to put it in the base of the crown. I assume this is so he doesn't have to drill a hole into the inside of the shank.

Has anyone seen this or had this done before? Does having the ruby below the diamond effect the light performance of the diamond? I just don't want the pretty white diamond to have a red hue to it.

Thanks!

I had this done with my fiance's ring. I had a pink diamond put in there. There is no adverse effect on her diamond that either of us can tell. I'm pretty sure as long as your jeweller knows what he's doing it should be fine.
