Hi all,
Looking for some input on bezeling one of my grandmother’s stones. 4 carat round, beautifully cut. I work in healthcare so I feel like a bezel is what would be safest and I would be most inclined to wear it. Would a bezel look odd on a larger stone?

If anyone has pictures of a large stone in a bezel I’d love to see it. I did browse the bezel thread but a lot of those are older.

Advice welcome!

I think a tight thin bezel would look beautiful on a larger stone. Some examples

Swoon. Love the yellow gold. Those are vintage cuts though… which I love, but tragically do not have. Lol

When my mom was still in possession of the 3.66 emerald cut that I know wear she had it in a bezel and it looked spectacular .

I love an emerald bezel! Half of me wants to bezel it, the other feels like nothing other than a 6 prong Tiffany style is appropriate. But I already have that style.. so why would I need another? Although it’s a classic and this bad boy is much bigger.

I don't have photo shop capability but maybe someone can photoshop a MRB onto one of those bezeled linked by @foxinsox . I love bezels and I don't think the fact that yours isn't an old cut matters, but you'd have to love it so again, maybe photoshop?

The design should go just as well with an MRB. It shouldn’t matter that the examples are antiques, although I’m sure maybe it’s hard to visualize.

I think bezels are gorgeous.

This is a very different look, but it’s a big chunky, modern bezel with a sizable MRB.

I think it's fine.

The antique ones provide a visual of a thin bezel. I'd want that versus chunky.

You can set it however, honestly! I don't think there are any rules that a round diamond must go in a standard Tiffany style mount, unless that's the only setting you like.

A half or semi bezel, like something by Scholdt is a compromise style as well.

Chunky is going to be heavy too, especially platinum.

I prefer thinner bezels generally too, sometimes I like chunky, but then I think may as well be a gypsy ring.

Sholdt has some great bezels, it’s one of their most common setting styles (that chunky monkey I shared is actually from them)

It will look great.

I would avoid nickel-containing WG since the ring will trap a lot of moisture behind it and, imo, that enhances the allergenicity of the nickel. Well, happened to me.

And make sure there is a big, accessible window in the back because with all that hand sanitizer, you will need to clean it daily. Prong-set gets in the way and catches on gloves but air-dries a lot better after the sanitizers and is much easier to clean behind the stone.

And avoid the trilliant sides stones that folks here have trouble accessing from the back to keep clean.

I like a heavy ring and a near-invisible bezel with as little intrusion on the face-up real estate as feasible.

I have a 5.02 in a bezel. I really like it and it is so easy to wear. Hope this helps. Btw my phone case is neon yellow and you can see the colors reflected. Lol. Good luck!2F0355FE-7AC0-4253-9DB3-E016529671D9.jpeg
