I am sure this is a stupid question

, but I am going to ask anyway.

If I have a bezel set ring made for a .75 stone, can it be altered to fit a 1.00 stone at a later date?

It seems to me a bezel setting could not be changed, but I am certainly not knowledgable about this sort of stuff.

Thanks for any help!

Generally, bezel settings have an allowance of .1 - .2 mm, so the only way I can see you being able to fit a 1.00 ct. diamond in a setting made for a .75 ct. would be to add prongs.

My thinking is it is not very likely. Only rings where you can switch out the head can be altered to accommodate a significantly larger stone. If you plan on upgrading, I''d recommend getting an inexpensive setting and have the bezel setting made for the upgrade stone.

What everybody else said - a bezel made for a .75 ct. stone probably could be made to accommodate a 1 ct. stone (easiest if we''re talking a round), but only if a stone had never been set in it. The problem wouldn''t be stretching the bezel or grinding away at its interior circumference ... the problem would be getting the first stone out without wrecking the bezel completely. That said, with a good jeweler, it would still be doable: you''d just carefully saw off the top of the bezel, solder a new "tip" to it in the larger circumference, and polish away the difference on the outside. So, doable, but difficult ....

Thanks for the responses!

I am referring to a round cut.

I have found a bezel setting that I love, but can probably only afford a .75 and the setting. I was hoping to upgrade later to the 1.00.

But, if the bezel can not be altered easily (if at all), it may be best to either buy the 1.00 now with a plain setting or go down in clarity and color on the 1.00 stone put it in the bezel setting and upgrade the 1.00 later. Is this an option???

It is no fun working within a very limited budget

Thanks again!!

As long as the stones are the same diameter this might work, but will require a bit of work certainly to unset and reset a bezel. I think it makes more sense to get a plain setting now and the bezel later once you can afford it.

Neatfreak,

You are right. That would make the most sense, to get the quality and size I want now and the setting later.

I just HATE waiting

Hehe. Yep, join the club.

Not unless the entire head was removed. There are some settings like this and they are called a "peg head". I don''t see any reason you couldn''t get something like this made with a bezel.

Thanks.
I am going to check onto that.

hmmmm...I was told by a jeweler that once a stone is removed from a bezel setting the bezel is usually ruined.

Yeah, it would seem so to me too.

I was hoping not, but none the less I will find out this week for sure.
