Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to figure out which pendant necklace I like more. I have a Lucida (prong setting) solitaire e-ring and matching (prong set) earrings. Do I want an exact matching set or something complementary? Decisions, decisons.. I like both! The Lucida is shaped like a square radiant. Which pendant do you think would look best for a .72ct stone and why?

1) prong setting

2) bezel setting

Thanks for your opinions! :twirl:

I actually like the bezel setting better but I'm a mix and match kind of girl! :cheeky:

I really prefer the bezel. I also don't like things to match too much, but it just looks a little bolder and more contemporary.

I like the bezel for the pendant because it defines the shape of the diamond. I think it gives it so much more presence. I prefer a ring and earrings prong set, but I do like this size diamond in the bezel for the pendant.

The bezel looks beautiful based on the pic and it enhances the beauty of the stone's shape. But I don't think you can go wrong with either choice. They both look lovely.

Another vote for the bezel.

Hands down, the bezel!! It really highlights the beautiful shape! :))

Thanks for the responses! :appl: I always thought I would want my pendant and earrings to match. Then, I saw the bezel and started questioning if I wanted an exact match or something complementary. I should have mentioned that I asked this same question a few months ago. The last set of responses were almost unanimous for the bezel. I was leaning toward the bezel as well, so soon after I found a bezel pendant and put it on layaway (it's approximately a size .65ct). I then decided I would sale my e-ring with the .72ct stone (which I would have used if I decided on the prong setting). But, then... I saw both pendant styles in the store the other night and started second guessing myself. I definetly want the bezel set pendant and will keep it, but should I hold onto to my e-ring in case I want the prong set pendant as well? I know, I'm being greedy now, lol Maybe later on I could get the matching bezel earring. :naughty: I haven't received the bezel pendant yet, and I haven't sold my e-ring yet. So I'm just trying to figure out if I should sell my e-ring with the .72ct stone since I have secured the bezel pendant.

Bezel, no contest.

I also feel the prong setting pic I posted isn't fair since it's a tiny stone compared to the stone in the bezel setting. :errrr:

Would you guys want two similiar sets of diamond earrings/pendant (prong setting and bezel setting) if they complemented your e-ring? :read:

yes my eye went right to the bezel

OK, so I'm definitely getting the bezel. I like it for everyday.

Do you think I will want the prong setting in the future? Or are they too similar? I like it for wearing to weddings more so than the bezel.
How many of you have the same stone in two similar settings like this?

Or maybe, I could get it reset into this other fancier style (with MRB on top of Lucida & a DBTY chain)

The only other pendant I really want is a Tanzanite pendant like this (Tiffany Soleste):

No, you only need one set of earrings and 1 pendant with Lucida stones. You will get far more from selling the e-ring intact, too. Never reset a Tiffany piece unless Tiffany does the resetting. But it is much better to just get the style you like made now with the Lucida stone..either the bezel or the round over Lucida.

I think I do like the round over Lucida with the tiny diamond bezels on the chain best of all.

Thanks DS2006... I'm definitely getting the bezel setting. I went to the store again last night to try both styles. Was just considering whether to keep my .72ct stone as well for a different style like the round over Lucida. I definitely can sell the .72ct e-ring for the same price I bought it for pre-loved. I just don't want to let it go (since I got such a good deal on it) and then decide later to make that round over Lucida style. I also would never get it reset any other place than T&Co.

Okay, that is great! I have seen people reset Tiffany stones before in non-Tiffany settings and it totally destroys the value! Anyway, of course you knew that! I love the bezel setting and think it is a great choice for an everyday pendant. It is possible you might really want a little dressier pendant down the road. If you do, I think I'd use a different shape diamond altogether to have some variety. Maybe you'll like a round set at that point!

Just wanted to thank everyone for their opinions. :wavey:

Diamondseeker, I get giddy whenever I see that you've contributed your help to my questions! :appl:

I'm selling my e-ring and getting the bezel set pendant. Can't wait!

Next on my wish list is a pre-loved Tiffany Soleste (or Leon Mege custom) pendant

I normally prefer prong set jewelry but that bezel set pendant is beautiful. Please post a neck shot in the future.

It was such a hard decision for me. I had to go try them both on twice. Unfortunately, I won't be getting my pendant until next month. I will definitely post pics when I do. I could only find smaller sizes (.30ct ish) to compare side by side in the store. As you can kinda see in the second pic, the prong set one (.48ct) tilted up and that drove me nuts! The bezel one laid flat, and like others have stated, the shape is much more noticeable. For the sizes I was considering (.50-.75) the prong set stone just looked like a round unless you got super close.

Where are you guys finding these bezel set lucida pendants? The stores in my area don't have them. The only one I seem to find online is a 38.5k via eBay. They look awesome, but where can I find them under 1 carat?

They have them in under a carat in the stores near me. They should be able to transfer some to your store.

I just got my bezel pendant today and am glad I chose the bezel. The only thing is that it looks the same size as my earrings (about .5 ct), so I am now considering selling it. I know, I'm nuts. I want it to be a bit bigger than my earrings so I might reset my .72ct ring into a bezel set necklace. :wall:

Monkey, what size are you looking for?

Hi Indican, did you buy the necklace new or pre loved? If it's new you would lose a bit of money selling it so early after you bought it? If you bought it pre loved how did you purchase it?

It's possible that a very deep cut diamond could face up smaller than a shallow cut diamond, however for a 0.65ct bezel set to face up similarly to a 0.5...??

I wonder if you took it to a jeweller if they can assess the carat weight for you in a bezel? If it is not the weight you thought you purchased surely this is something to discuss with the seller?

Hi Bliss Cathy,

Thank you for the reply. I bought it pre-loved via eBay. I was thinking it could be cut deep, but wasn't sure how much is a reasonable amount of discrepancy. It's beautiful and super shiny, just smaller than I had expected. I'll get some photos of it soon. I'm taking it T&Co. tomorrow to see what they say. :boohoo:

Looking at a similar weight at Tiffany will be a good start.

It would be even better if you had some calipers to measure a 0.65 bezel set and compare the size to the one you have bought. That would give you some piece of mind.

Did the seller not have a valuation with the item?

If you could get a formal document from a Jeweller who can assess the carat weight, if you really do think it is smaller, I'm sure this would be item not as described?

Less than 0.5 vs 0.65 is a significant difference in value. Hopefully the seller will work with you once you have compared the two diamonds at Tiffany.

Unfortunately, my stores don't have many of these necklaces. I have only found a bezel in the 30ish range. The seller provided their own appraisal with the .65ct approximation.

Maybe I just looked at the macro photos too much before receiving the pendant, lol :eh:

My earrings are prong set so maybe they look bigger because they are brighter? The pendant is bigger, just not as big as I was expecting. I also do not want to go through the hassle of resetting the stone of my .72ct e-ring only to not notice a difference between it and the .65ct especially since it holds more resale value as an e-ring.

Haha, I definitely think photos make things look bigger!!

I had a 0.61 Lucida cut diamond for a while and I just checked the diamond certificate for you - it measured 4.85 x 4.89mm

I know it's not a perfect solution but maybe it helps give you some idea of the measurement you would at least expect to see?

In my opinion bezel set gives the illusion of being bigger than prong set just because of the platinum border.

Is your 0.72 e-ring also a Lucida cut?

A little late but I prefer the bezel setting here as well! They're both lovely choices, though.

"Matching" and "complementary" aren't necessarily the same thing. I think you're right that a bezel can help bring the overall look together. It's bold and still delicate. Fun stuff! :wavey:
