Hello PSers!
I would love to gather some opinions about a little engagement ring tweak I have been considering.

My engagement ring (https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/bad-pricescoper-fantastic-avc-lm-creation.161471/) has bezel set side stones and double claws on the center stone. I love my ring, I love my double claw prongs. However, the shape of my finger is such that no ring can be worn without some serious spinning. I have tried sizing beads, I have tried sizing my ring down, I have tried stacking bands/spacers so that the ring sits higher on my finger, no luck. Thus, I whack my poor AVC on something at least 1-2x a week. Then I spend a solid 5 minutes inspecting the girdle because I am convinced I have chipped it.

I have been toying with the idea of bezeling my center stone. I assume that a bezel, even an incredibly thin one (would ask LM to make the adjustment/reset the ring so that the center bezel matched those holding my side stones and I wouldn't be adjusting anything else in terms of the ring's design), would add a little more protection than my current setting. But I don't want to drastically change the appearance of my ring or do anything to negatively effect the light performance.

I would greatly appreciate any thoughts, pros/cons to making this change. Some considerations--Would a bezel work well with my center stone? Would it make the stone look smaller (I know there has been some debate over whether a bezel/enclosed setting actually makes the stone look smaller than one that appears to be all diamond, all the time)? I have bezeled AVC studs and love the look of the milgrain bezel with the stones, so can't imagine suddenly hating this look on my e-ring. I will definitely miss my claw prongs though.

Thanks in advance!

A bezel will only protect the girdle and given that the AVC has really a high crown, I am doubtful it will provide any more or less protection to the crown facets.

I love bezels but I'd hate to see your perfect ring changed!!!

There are some other options to control the spinning that I would consider before changing the look: a sizing bar rather than beads, a 'clinger' (horseshoe looking tension thingy soldered on the inside), or my favourite, the arthritic shank that opens & closes (don't want to name names bc of trade status, but others will know what I'm talking about).

I would exhaust these options first, unless you are really pining for a change! It sounds to me that your preference would be to solve the problem and keep the current look.

Thanks, Shimmer! I did try the sizing bar and horseshoe option (my poor ring has been through a few adjustments already) and found them to be pretty uncomfortable. I am familiar with the arthritic shank, but never really considered it. I will definitely look into it. I'm not opposed to a slight change, but I don't want to mess with the overall appearance too drastically.

Thanks for the swift reply, Chrono! Yes, absolutely correct. But when I hit the ring, the impact does seem to fall on the edge of the stone and not on the crown. Hard to describe, but I often catch the edge of the stone on something rather than hitting the stone face/crown on? But maybe a bezel won't change this.

Noooooo! Your ring is perfection! You can even get one of those little temp plastic ring sizer things (people used to say they sold them at Claire's). I would do anything to help the ring fit more snugly rather than try to alter the top view of the setting. Many ring makers will not even do that kind of alteration because it might never be right. I think you'd have to remake the entire ring to make a multi-bezel ring the right way. I will have to say that I am surprised the girdle would be hit considering how low Leon normally sets center stones, though.

I think a bezel around the AVC will change the look and flavor of the ring - not saying it couldn't look good but the design flow and aesthetic will be quite different.

At this point you've had the ring for 2-1/2+ years without damaging the stone... if you have adequate insurance on your ring (specifying a GOG AVC and LM setting), and if you really love the current iteration, I'd keep it "as is" and resort to an insurance claim should the worst occur sometime down the road.

Your ring is one of my very favorites on PS!! It's altogether perfect the way it is, please don't change it :wavey:

It's a stunning design (one of my favourites). I hope you will leave it as is and find a solution for the shank, such as sizing beads etc

No way!! I agree that you have one of the most beautiful and unique settings on PS. I would not change a thing about it. Ever. Plus, as other said I don't think it will give you the protection you are seeking anyway so why do it? Have you thought about wearing a thicker mm wedding band to help stop the spinning? Or stack a few thinner bands between your WB and ER?

This one might look amazing with your ering and it is nice and thick mm-wise:

ring noodles - you can get them on Amazon also.

Beautiful ring - just the way it is!

Another vote for not messing with perfection. I think you'll be disappointed in the appearance of your stone bezeled, as I'm pretty sure it will change the way the facets reflect etc. Not that it would be bad, just different and if you love the way your stone performs now, it might be hard to get used to a big change.

Your ring is one of the most perfect rings I have ever seen. I have read pros and cons of LM.. I will say, after seeing your ring I think higher of his work. I wish you did not have to change it.. but my rings roll too, especially in winter... as my son said when he was little.. 'it's superior'... it's a wow!

Leave it as is! I absolutely LOVE your ring!! It's been in my favorites folder since you posted it!! :appl:

Cachette :))

I love your setting as is plus.......My bezeled ring spins but my 1/2 platinum band ering doesn't

NAY! :o i think its gorgeous just the way it is!

Have you considered the Euro shank for your beautiful ring? It often solves the problem of ring spin.
