Hi guys,

Posted this on Rocky-Talky forum but didn''t get too manyresponses, so I''d thought this forum would be more appropriate. Basically I have to make a decision soon on my RB e-ring on whether to add suprise diamonds on the basket or not.

My gf prefers bead-setting as it makes the ring more "sparkly". I would think that adding a few surprise diamonds would also be a nice touch, as the pictures I''ve seen looks really good. However, I''m concerned that it might cover up too much of the pavilion and side profile? I know, I should just ask her, but I kinda don''t want to reveal too much and surprise her (no pun intended).

FYI Mark Morrell is designing a 4-prong basket for me. The basket looks great. But surprise or no surprise diamonds?

Said it before, will say it again: if she likes sparklies, then YES to the surprise diamonds, ESPECIALLY as done by Mark Morrell. They will look exquisite.

I love surprise diamonds! I agree that they are a nice touch.
MM should be able to incorporate or integrate that element perfectly into your setting.

I know Gwendolyn, but I guess I need daily positive encouragement

. It''s not easy predicting what women want--although in this case I guess it''s evident. When I get home I can post Mark''s nice pictures for you to see.

surprise stones are such a nice touch to any ring they really are, its like they give it that little umph!!! and yea if done by mark.m your gonna be happy his work is absolutely stunning!!!! you better come back with pictures lol!!!

I am probably in the minority but I do not like surprise diamonds. I love to see the side of the diamond. But with a ring from MM, it will be stunning either way!

Here is the rendered picture by Mark. I will be choosing the one with the bead-setting. What do you think?

yes - do it!

I vote surprise diamonds as well!

(my first post!)...

uh, yeah, i personally don''t like surprise diamonds. they seem to take away from the fluidity of the ring''s design and clutter it all up. more doesn''t always mean better!

I understand feeling a bit unsure, but it just seems to me like you answered your own question. You ask "better with more sparkle?," and then go on to say that your girlfriend prefers a certain style because it is "more sparkly." So although some people here may prefer a ring without surprise stones, it sounds to me like your girlfriend would quite like them. Do you agree with that?

In the end, only her opinion (and your own, of course) should matter, not what the rest of us here prefer for ourselves.

Those are all beautiful rings you posted, but I''m with Tacori, no surprise diamonds.

Personally, I am more into simplicity and surprise diamonds do absolutely nothing for me. I am a fan of lovely engraving work, however, so maybe that would be an option for you if you''re even readng this post and taking it into consideration. If not, just another post about to go into PS Oblivion. LOL!

Put me in the no surprises camp. You''ve already got the big "sparkly" in the middle, and melee on the shank. I personally think that''s perfect right there. But, I''m not a surprise diamond fan either. So take that with a grain of salt.

It''s going to be stunning, nobody does it like MM.

Well, buddy - this seems pretty much a split decision. We don''t know her - you do - trust your intuition and don''t over think it - your first instinct is almost always right in these situations. It seems like you''re thinking it''s something your GF would like - MM wouldn''t do it if it isn''t going to look great. Good luck .....

Thanks everyone for their comments, it was greatly appreciated. I''m going with my gut on this one, as I think my gf will like the surprise diamonds. I''ll stop agonizing over this now, as Mark is anxiously waiting for my decision (he has my stone already). I will post real pix of the ring to show everyone when the ring is done.

Again thanks a bunch. You guys are great.
