my diamond piece isnt sparkling well whats best way to clean piece when stones are set in already rinse with hot water? or use the ammonia solution and bursh hard? how hard can i brush?

Besides the US that Lorelei suggested, you can also clean by hand.

Use a mixture of hot water and ammonia (4 parts water, 1 part ammonia), IF the piece is in Platinum. Use a soft childrens toothbrush to gently scrub the diamonds after soaking for 10 or 15 minutes. Rinse well.

If your piece is in White Gold, ammonia isn''t good for it, in which case use hot water and a few drops of Dawn dish detergent, or some Mr. Clean sloution and hot water.

Yep, you can also use Windex with good results, soak, scrub gently and rinse well.

Yep, if it''s Platinum. That has ammonia in it, right?

It has a very slight amount of ammonia, so go with caution if using it for white gold- good point!

I''m only pushing this point because of experience. It (ammonia) really does eat away at the Rhodium.

I used the great tips above for 2 years, but just got the Sharper Image US referenced on the other thread when some helpful PSers publicized the $50 sale price and linked related coupons.

[Seemed like an indulgence given my smaller diamond, but then again old cut stones really lose their sparkle when dirty, so....]

The US makes *such* a difference -- I''d really think about going for it or a steam cleaner!

Does anyone know what Mr. Clean is made up of?

Thanks.

Hi,

For my platinum, I''ve used either amonia and room temp water, but for white gold, I just put a bit of baby shampoo in a bowl of water and soak my jewelry and then scrub with a baby toothbrush. After I dry my diamond surfaces with tissue wrap (the kind that comes in gift packaging) because that will dry the stones but not leave any lint.

I don''t know the actual ingredients, and I''m too lazy to go upstairs and look.

But I know it''s safe for both WG and Platinum.

I have an US and I love it! My coworkers are always asking me how the heck I keep my rings so clean (I am a nurse and I have to wear those gloves).

I use the $5 jewelry cleaning solution from the drug store (it is ammonia based). I let it sit for about 30 seconds then I brush it with a troothbrush. Finally I rinse it under lukewarm water and wipe with a non-shedding towel.

I use the jewelry solution you get for 10 bucks at the jewelry stores which comes with a toothbrush and a small container to dip the jewelry in, it is ammonia based, so that shouldn''t be used with white gold you guys are saying? it said works with gold and diamonds so i presumed it was safe?

Yes, that''s what we''re saying, and that''s what the experts on here have said also.

The actual machines use various things or powders / additives you can use, I guess it depends on whether these brews contain ammonia or not, you would have to read the ingredients on each.
