J and I are getting married in mid-June and had our hearts set on a Playa Del Carmen honeymoon. But...I''ve been reading that it''s the start of their rainy season, and since our last trip (to Maui) was plagued by constant rain, I''d prefer not to take the chance. Does anyone have suggestions for fabulous tropical destinations in June? We''re in CA and would only have about a week, so preferably something not too far away. I know Hawaii is always an option, but was wondering if there were other places I haven''t thought of. Thanks!

Would an 8 hour trip be too far? We are going to Tahiti, Bora Bora and Moorea at the end of June for our honeymoon (we're taking it a year late and celebrating our first anniversary). The weather is perfect there in June and it's about an 8 hour flight to Tahiti from LA!

I was going to suggest something along the same lines. FI and I are going to Rarotonga, Cook Islands in September and staying in a beach side bungalow for a great rate. The tough part about the Cook Islands is that there''s only one direct flight from LAX to Rarotonga per week and one direct flight out so your time there might be a little limited... 5 days.

I agree!

Anything in the Caribbean is a gamble, because it''s the start of Atlantic Hurricane Season, so I''d say that the South Pacific is a great choice.

We are looking into Los Roques, Venezuela. It's a group of islands about 90 miles off the coast. The flight is, I think, 6 hours from Houston. So I would guess about 9 from LA. It's very southern caribbean. We will be going late July.

Ditto everything Mediterranean said, but just in case the South Pacific isn''t in your budget I thought I''d mention that while nothing is guaranteed, the ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao) are outside the hurricane belt and are considered safer bets weather-wise.

Thanks for the suggestions ladies! J and I were really excited about Playa, but after our last gloomy, rainy vacation, would prefer not to risk the rain. So should Aruba really be a safer bet? I know there are no guarantees with anything, but...

That''s what they say. The southern caribbean is usually under the paths. That''s why we are looking at the islands that are closest to the SA borders.

PT, as you''re aware they''re no guarantees, but Aruba is DEFINITELY considered a safer bet. Also, if I remember correctly the island boasts one of the driest climates - meaning that it sees less rain than most other islands in the Caribbean. I haven''t been there, but FWIW one of my best friends and her husband went there for their honeymoon in September a few years ago (also considered part of the rain season) and they enjoyed amazing weather. Something to keep in mind though is the fact that Aruba is pretty quiet especially compared to PDC so if part of the appeal of Playa is the lively atmosphere you may be disappointed in the laid back, quiet atmosphere of Aruba. Of course, if you''re okay with that then I would definitely consider Aruba as I''ve heard from many people the island is beautiful and the people are friendly.

The safest bet is to go to a place where there is plenty to do besides sitting on the beach. Could you entertain yourselves and have a good time if it did rain 100% of your trip. If you can say yes about a place, that''s the one I would go with.

Aruba or Costa Rica would both be wonderful.

Hmmm...good to know. I''ll keep that in mind. At this point, we''re reconsidering Hawaii. Neither of us has been to the Big Island yet. What I''d really love to do is to talk J into Greece, but he''s a little resistant to such a long flight. Hmmm...Santorini and Mykonos...
