Hey All,
So I am wondering what is a good size to get for Diamond Studs (RB) to give me the best reflection of the beauty of a diamond. After reviewing some videos last night of diamond sizes I''m wondering is .5 carat enough for each side to really show the beauty, or do you need to go larger? I know we often talk about the size of the diamond proportionate to the size of the finger, but with ears is the same true?

In a very well cut stone, that''s plenty big. My ACA''s are .58 each, and they are quite noticeable. Cut is the key.

Ditto Miss Ellen.

Ok Perfect. Exactly what I wanted to know. Do you have pictures posted? I''ll take a look and search as well.
Thanks!!

Have you tried them on. It really depends on your lobes and how they are pierced as well. And how they are set.

I have a really lousy pic, but maybe it's better than nothing? lol

And Gypsy raises a good point. If you don't already have any to guage with, or haven't tried any on, might want to do that first.

I would say I have medium size lobes.

Mine are .82 ctw - .41 per ear and are perfect for daily wear. My lobes are medium and my build is petite. (just for extra info - before I had .50 ctw and felt they were great at the time, but after I upgraded, I realized that the .82 ctw were better. I could see myself getting a larger pair in the future if I can ever convince my DH

I''d probably still keep the .82 ctw for daily though because as a SAHM I feel a bit silly volunteering at my kids'' school decked out in many carats of diamonds!)

Oh, and mine are ACA stones and that makes a huge difference in presentation. I do still have my smaller studs and plan to bezel them at some point in the future.

Welcome! And thank you!

I truly adore these. They are just big and blingy enough that I can wear them dressed up or dressed down and they always feel right. Perfect for me.

for adolecents who need "dressy ears" .40 ctw to .50 ctw
for 20+ years old .50 ctw to .75 ctw
for 30+ years old .65 ctw to 1.00 ctw
for 40+ years old .90 ctw to 1.75 ctw
for 50 and older 1.50 to 2.00+ ctw (live it up)

Of course it depends on if you live in a city or in the the country. City folks use and want to wear larger jewelry more often. It also depends if you are affluent or budgeting to make such luxury type purchases. Not everyone is on equal footing financially. And it depends on your circle of friends, the needs of your peers and how you wish to be seen by others. The amount of total diamond weight is very much a personal choice combined with the expectations of what you have grown up seeing around you.

Fank you! I really do need to get a better pic to put in the stud thread.

Great Recommendations! Ellen I LOVE yours. They do look very sparkly and exactlly the type of thing Im looking for. I like the recommendations on the sizes by age. I think you are all right I just need to go try some on. To this point I had .38 Princess Cut ones, and they were small but cute, but I want round ones now to go with my ER that is round. So I do want something that shines beautifully as well.

I''ve just gotten brand new studs, I haven''t gotten around to posting photos yet. They are 1.08 ctw (54 points each) and they certainly don''t look too big. I think I must have fairly average-large earlobes. I think 1/2 carat each is a good size, but I could easily have gone larger (eg 1.5 ctw).

Did you see these videos online? I''d like to look at them if you did and can post a link.

Hi Mish,

I was refering to the videos on Good Old Gold.

http://goodoldgold.com/Diamond_Videos/

Specifically what got me down this thought process was the videos on "The Assessment of Fire". I want my earrings to sparkle and for the hearts and arrows to really come through like in the comparison on this video. I found out later that diamond is just over a 1 carat, so it got me thinking well do my studs need to be as large as 1 ct each, or will it give me the same brilliance at .5 carat. I think 1 carat would be way too big in my ears anyways, but I am trying to figure out the sparkle factor. It seems to be the sparkle is much different when you are wearing it in your ears versus on your hand. I could be totally off, but I think the scenarios of always having light hit it on the side means the diamond may need to be of different quality to make sure you get the most light out of it.?
