I want a jewelry insurance policy WITHOUT home owner''s or renter''s insurance. Jewelers Mutual seems well advertised on the internet, but is it really the best bang for my buck? Has anyone in here purchased a jewelry-only insurance policy?

Hi, tuf. If you run a search on the forums you will come up with several threads on insurance. I don''t recall the details except that Jewelers Mutual and Chubb were among the favorites. Please do let us know what you find. I"m going to be doing the same search later this year.

I have jewelers mutual and have been really happy with them.

I''m going through the same process and have read several posts on CHUBB and Jewelers Mutual. After talking with Touchstone (agent of CHUBB), I was surprised to find out that they do not cover several scenarios of lost items.

1. If my FI were to take the ring off to wash her hand in a public bathroom and forget to put it back on and lose it...
2. " " for whatever reason while in the car, put it in her lap, and get out of the car forgetting it was there and lose it...
3. " " in a hotel room, leave for a period of time, only to find it''s missing upon returning to the room...

I was told by Touchstone that none of these scenarios would be covered under the CHUBB policy, however from my conversations with AAA and JM it sounds like they would. Has anyone had similar experiences with these vendors that can confirm if this is valid?

We went with bollinger which then found us a policy through Chubb. We are very happy with it. We have a full umbrella insurance for valuables - which covers damage, loss, stolen pretty much every scenario - even overseas - even if its my fault, like I left it in the bathroom of a public restroom....

I would check them out.

what is the average cost for insurance? Lets say on and 8,000 to 10,000 dollar ring?

Oh... the difference we found between them and Jewelers Mutual b/c we were comparing them both was if you ring was lost/stolen Jewelers Mutual paid off a reputable jeweler (of your chosing) to recreate your ring.

With Bollinger thru Chubb they give you the choice to do that or pay you out cash for you to resource and get it done on your own. Therefore if you insure your ring for 5K and it only cost 4K to recreate, jewelers mutual will pay a jeweler that 4K while the latter will give you the check for 5K adding a extra grand in your pocket if you could get it remade for only 4K.
