I have been wanting round diamond studs and got help via PS to find stones a little over 1 ct each. Call me crazy- but I tried on 2tct stones at a local store and thought they were a bit too big for me! I also tried on 1.76 tct and thought they were too small. So- now I have determined, being the picky shopper that I am, that somewhere around 1.85tct will be PERFECT. Why is the selection for AGSO of this size so slim? In terms of rap- aren''t .90-.99 priced about the same? Are the .93 sold first because they almost seem like 1 ct for less money? Are there many more .90 around because if a cutter makes stone a shade over .89 ct- price gets bumped up when in .90 range?

I have been told that I really will never be able to tell the difference in size from .90 to .96, but when I compared two stones in this bracket at store- I COULD see one was bigger. Then again, I understand that I might have noticed larger table or something.

So, my question- are the .92 diamonds sold the quickest because everyone is just like me and has decided they want TWO .925 ct diamonds for the perfect pair of earrings, or are there just harder to find because less commonly cut?

the difference between .87 cts and .93 cts? cut to the same proportions, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference on your ears. get the mm of the stones that you like, it's much more precise.

and, yes. stones in the .8, .9 ranges go very fast.

So do I need to ask WF or GOG to search for me instead of checking their websites regularly? I do have other diamond earrings so I am not needing stones asap- I am happy to be patient for the best stones in size range for best price.

Those sizes are not so common because the cutters will do everything in their power to get to the majic 1.00ct....it''s all about getting max. $ out of the rough.

No, 0.95-0.99 are considered oversize and are sold at a premium. Much harder or impossible to find high 90s and high 80s in a matched pair than low 80s and low 90s. It''s economics as Gary says.

There are enough variables with proportions even among "ideals" that as was said earlier you need to be comparing dimensions not weight.

Definitely contact a dealer or two and tell them what you want, don''t wait. A few years ago when I was looking low 90s could be matched up fairly easily from the larger suppliers e.g. the ISEE2 stones that Jon sells.

I don''t think you''d notice any size difference for earrings and once you hit 1.0 carat the price really jumps. I can''t wait to see them.
