Hey Girls,

If you had two stones, one a RB and one an Oval, with the same specs set in the same simple solitaire setting which stone would appear larger do you think?

I know technically this isn''t the right forum for such a question, but I feel more comfortable posting here.

Thanks!

Hi Irish Eyes,

This link:
images.amazon.com/media/i3d/01/actual-diamond-size.pdf

Contains a print- out of actual diamond sizes compared to different cuts.

For example: a 1ct RBC would be 6.5x 6.5 millimetres compared to an 1ct Oval cut which would be 7x5 millimetres.

Also note: RBC is always going to be the more expensive cut, compared to other shapes.
So you could probably get a larger carat and better quality diamond in another shape.

Just keep in mind the whole bowtie thing on ovals, pears, etc. It IS possible to find one that doesn''t have one that stands out like a sore thumb.

I went to 47th street about a month ago, and saw a TDF marquise that was really well priced. It was a 2.11 carat J, SI1 GIA marquise, with a very small culet, but had absolutely no bowtie! It was priced at just about $8,100, including the platinum mounting. It looked like it had a little diamond shape in the center of the rock when you looked with a 20x loupe, and only one little black speck that couldn''t be seen with the 10x because of it''s location. What a pretty stone!
