Benefit from a re-polish?

Would an OEC rated as having good polish benefit from having it re-polished? Would I see a significant difference in how it performs?
This new one is graded as a VS1 with two naturals along the girdle. That does not bother me in the least, would not want it recut. The girdle is thin-thick. Should I be concerned about prong setting it?

I'm not an expert, but have recently had my oec polished for two reasons: 1) there were a couple of small chips on the girdle, and 2) it had a bruted (non-faceted girdle). For my diamond, the polish made a world of difference. The diamond was stunning as it was, but I saw a significant difference with the polish in regards to color play, sparkle and fire. With your diamond, that may not be the case at all. With a thin to thick girdle, I don't believe you would have to worry about settings, but I'm not sure how the naturals on your diamond affects its performance or durability (probably not at all, but you may want to check that with the vendor to make sure). I will say that if you choose to get your diamond polished, use an expert cutter (Ari at Single Stone or Brian Gavin). I used Ari and was very happy, and I believe Gypsy used Brian Gavin and was equally as happy. HTH.

I don't know the answer to the polish question, but the girdle sounds fine (GIA graded?). Very thin, extremely thin are what you want to avoid.

Yes, GIA graded. Thanks!

I have seen the threads in regards to these vendors work. I was thinking about sending it to BDG. He seems to do such a great work-up report on how it performs and if in the end I choose not to do anything, there is no fee. I know that it only matters to me but if I could improve the performance for a small fee, why not?

From what I have read, polishing a diamond is still "cutting" it in terms of method, and has the same risks. It is not like polishing a gemstone.

I doubt it would make much difference with polish already being good. I don't think I would bother. But obviously, that is something to consult and expert about. I am just musing.

DS: I thought only extremely thin was an issue with girdles?

Thanks for your input Dreamer_D! I do understand that polishing a diamond is in fact "cutting" but did not think it was the same "a re-cut"?

I have an OEC which I just sent to Ari for evaluation. He is great and gave me an honest opinion on whether a polishing would help the performance of my stone. In my case, he said polishing the girdle would make no visible difference in appearance. I think the answer depends on the particular stone, so sending it to Ari or BDG your stone would give you your answer.

I completely understand where you're coming from. Like MrsM said, Ari will definitely be honest with you (and BG, I'm sure...just haven't worked with him), and tell you if your stone needs any work at all so it's up to you whether or not you want it checked out by one of them.

I had talked to Ari about a diamond I had bought off e-bay (sent it back) and if I was not mistaken he charges 100/ct for evaluation? BGD does not charge for evaluation and the documentation they provide prior to any work. Although it may all come out in the end cost wise!

It would be a plus at no cost other than shipping if I chose not to do anything if recommended not to.
