Recently, I asked the forum about fancy intence yellow diamonds for my soon to be married sister...she found a 4 carat white round brilliant instead that she really loves and I am interested in what the forum has to say about the diamond...

Any comments on grading, proportions, price ect. would be appreciated and interesting....
What do the cut freaks of the forum think about the crown angle and crown height...if the crown angle were 35.0 the stone would get a HCA rating of 1.5 and excellant.....thanks for feedback...I ALWAYS APPRECIATE COMMENTS FROM FORUM MEMBERS!JM.

SORRY...FORGOT DEPTH...61.4%

IS for the stone?

JM, such a large diamond needs to be considered for the size as well as the cut ( you will know what I mean), for such a size which would usually be cut to keep the diamond as large as possible, it looks like a nicely cut and crafted stone. If I were looking for a mammoth round then I would be interested in this one! The crown and pav angles are dependant on how they work together, you can have more leeway with the crown angle than the pavilion. Having said that the angles are in a good range, it is very slightly borderline what we call steep deep which might show leakage, however if there was any effect from this then it might not be visible to the human eye or in a rock of that size so much anyway. Get your SIL to check it out away from the store lights if possible to make sure she still loves it. Or she can buy an Idealscope here to check the diamond out herself.

The bottom line is it is a well cut diamond of scarce weight, if your SIL loves the diamond as you say, then she can consider it for purchase as decently cut diamonds of that size don't grow on trees.

sorry.Dont have IS for stone.

Ditto. It isn''t the best cut in the world, but doesn''t appear to be horrid either...stones of that size are already so rare that it might be hard to find another unless she''s willing to invest a lot of time into it.

thanks for the post...my sister tells me that the stone sparkles like mad indoors as well as outside....Appreciate your opinion.

It sounds like it is beautiful! I do think it is unfair to impose our normal perfectionist standards on a stone of rare size. Please get some pictures for us if they buy it!

IS for the stone?
Just asking, cause it is right on the edge of ideal performance. Could be very good optically.

Allmost all diamonds that size sparkle like crazy.
What folk around here try to achieve is the best of the best.

An ideal-scope image or her own assessment with an ideal-scope would be well worth while. But in this case i would spend a bit more and get an appraiser involved.

Well cut diamonds of that size are very rare SC and need to be considered on that basis, and as said above our normal perfectionist standards don't always apply on a gem of that size, so we need a slightly different approach. This diamond is far better cut than some of that size you can find.

As Garry notes the eye of an independant appraiser would be invaluable and I wouldn't want to spend that sort of money on a diamond without a second opinion, see here JM to find one in your area.
