Went setting/mounting shopping with the lady today on a 2.86 round H VS2. She loved a setting that had small beaded pave type diamonds around the daimond-most 1/4 of the band. I thought this was tacky. Of course the salesman (at a very high end retail store) thought it was not. Do people think this type of setting will take away from the center stone? If I can find a picture of one like it, will post. Thanks jon

The setting is SORT OF like this one. Except the beaded work is only on the superioor 1/4 of the band, and there is none of the busy fine detail work between the rows of diamonds.

candide,

The key words in your words are "She loved a setting that had small beaded pave type diamonds". It does not matter that you think it is tacky. If she loves it and she is sure and you can afford it...buy it! If you twist her arm to buy something else, she will never forget it.

If you want a happy life, you need a happy wife!

Diamonbob, you are so right!

Like the ol saying goes....

"If Mama's ain't happy, then NO ONE is happy"

Sounds like your lady knows just what she wants....

there's your answer.

Okay, I agree with the others, but I have said I loved a lot of settings but that doesn't mean I would want all of them.

It's her choice and, by the way, I don't think it is tacky at all.

Just make sure she meant - "I love it on my finger for ME!" and not "I love it, it's so pretty, and wouldn't it look great on my best friend Frida!"

What Diamondbob said.

If it matters, though, I think the setting you posted is slender enough to avoid tackiness.

Take a look at my ring pictures in the Show Me the Ring forum. My ring has 24 .03c small prong set stones all the way around the band, eternity style. It's similar..though it's eternity and not like the one you described. However I love it. I think it really sets off the stone. We saw a band similar to the one you posted...the interesting thing is that my fiance did not like that band because it was too busy, too much filigree on the sides, in between and on the head...but yet we had the same thing made but without all the busy filigree. Just the head, the diamond and the stones on the band..in platinum. He loves it. It's flashy, yes...but I don't think it's tacky at all. It also may depend on your center stone.

Take a look at Michael B settings as well..he has a bunch like that, but without the filigree. In person they are beautiful. But yes also, as the others say, be sure she likes it for HERSELF because liking something without trying it on does not mean you will like it on your finger, forever!!

Best of luck!

This kinda antique look is very in at the moment. You may not love it, but I don't think that it's 'tacky'.
