I have wandered into a state of confusion regarding settings. Could someone explain and show (pics please!) the difference between bead set, melee, pave and micro pave. I may be missing others, so feel free to add those as well.

Thank you!

here is a great thread that explains it somewhat--pave thread

bead set pave is how the tiny diamonds (melee) are set with tiny beads.

melee - tiny diamonds

pave- the tiny diamonds are "paved" onto the ring
micro pave - even smaller diamonds.

Reena ring is bead set pave

just found this explaination by Denverappraiser.

Pave'' is a regularly misused term and this is probably the source of your confusion. Bead setting is where the stone is set flush with the metal with little beads of metal are pushed up to the edge of the stone to hold it in. Pave'' is special pattern of bead setting where the stones fit together in a hexagonal pattern of round stones.

Arrange a bunch of pennies or other identical coins on a table and pack them together as tightly as possible. Notice the pattern that forms. Place a pea in each of the little triangular areas between the coins so that each pea is touching 3 coins. Coins are diamonds - peas are gold - that''s pave''.
