Yipes!! Where are you guys? It''s pretty chilly here in Michigan, but it''s like a heat wave here compared to where you are!

Our wind chill last night was -25, this am it''s around -12 (our actual temp is supposed to reach a high of 8) Last night, my mom ditched her car on the way home from work - not because she slid off the road, but because you couldn''t see a road. My brother drives a plow so he went and brought her to his home because they couldn''t get the last 5 miles to her house. My dad got a call (firefighter/first responder) and ditched the NEW fire truck (again because there was no road to see). My uncle got the tractor down to him (about 1/2 mile away) and pulled out the firetruck, then went and rescued the caller.

So, after all of this, I still have a smile on my face. I really LOVE the snow!

N IL, finally warm a nice hot bowl of oatmeal does wonders :}
plus the winds down to 10mph
-4.5 now with a -20 windchill.

-30 here (w/windchill). DH is out snowblowing, and I -

actually, he just came in. The scarf I lent him is covered in snot. Ick! Gotta go make my honey some hot chocolate. :)

It''s a great 1st day of winter. I am so glad that we officially hit the area cold weather design temperature for building heating in winter (it would not be so great to have hit it in fall or spring).

For those who don''t know. There are official tables published on what is the coldest temperature your heating system should be designed for. It is not the coldest day ever recorded as that would result in generally oversized heating sytems - just the temperature that your heating system had better be able to maintain a warm house. I believe it is the temperature that represents 98% of the coldest time during the winter (but would have to do research to verify that).

Anyway.... Lets enjoy Winter.

Oh, and Storm... Yah, better bundle up if you are going up; and I hope you are not in an old poorly insulated and sealed house.

I''m in southern IL.

something, good grief! I love snow too though, and if we''re lucky, we "might" have a white xmas this year.

That is the biggest problem 1970s apartment building that leaks everywhere and little insulation.
Needs new windows and doors but that isn''t happening.

Geez, that''s cold. It''s about 22 here and still snowing! I tried to take my 4 year old skiing in the back yard but it didn''t work out very well, lol! We are now enjoying some hot chocolate.

Great line Storm:"Just thought I would share my misery."
same here temperatures below zero and lots of snow.Misery it is.

Brrrrr is right! I just looked and the windchill is -26 right now. That''s a bit chilly for me! And I have bunches of shopping to do!

We''ve had a major high way shut down now. I guess you can''t get any more snowed in!! And, the wind has picked up again, we''re at about -25 - -30.

OK, so I take that back... Apparently we are experiencing MAJOR wind right now, so it''s 10 degrees... -10 with the wind chill!!! Today is definitely a cream of wheat or chicken and dumplings day!

We''re in central Ontario where we''re used to lots of snow, but this is something else!! Yesterday, we had sunny skies and -10 with no wind, but today it''s -8 with wind gusts to 50 mph.

We had planned to go about half an hour north of here to a lovely "Christmasy" place for lunch. I checked with DH and we decided to go ahead with our plans. There were only two groups there; one birthday party and us. We could hear the wind whistling by and see the blowing snow, but finished our lunch anyway. On the way back, the police had closed the highway due to blowing and drifting snow so we picked the most travelled sideroad and got home just fine....Pure luck, though.

Karl, come to our house, we have a nice hot fire going. I''ll make ya some nice hot chocolate with marshmallows and whipped cream

Here in California, it is 43 and raining.

The dog says:

"Oh the weather outside is frightful..
But the fire, is so delightful
Since we've no place to go
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow."

(he's been like this all day: I think he's gonna burn his butt!)

But I'd love to join you, Linda, for some hot chocolate.

Linda, that''s just mean!!! ;)

DH and I put plastic covering over the rest of our windows last night and I''m so glad we did. Our little 83 year old house is not exactly a heat trap. When I woke up, I put my hand on the exterior wall behind my head and it was freezing cold. Then, when we saw the today''s temp, we skipped church and I started baking - now the house is a little warmer and smells heavenly!

I love the Iowa white Christmases, but this is pushing it!!

SS - Is 74 closed?!! I''m going to try to go to my parents'' house tomorrow, but I''m terrified that the roads are going to be awful. To Champaign is a long drive with white knuckles!!

lol when it is 20 or above I will go out and get the mail in shorts and a winter coat.
Will go out and have a smoke wearing them fairly often.
Cracks up my neighbors.
This year my knees don't like it much however so just do it when getting the mail.
Biggest problem is my elbow it don't like anything under 76.
