Does anyone have any thoughts on how to de-stink stuff like keys, cheapie costume jewellery after the plating has worn off,..?

A good scrub, vinegar, etc. helps for a day or two, then it's right back to square one. Is there some sort of (not pricey) resin or polish that could be applied safely to keys?

I wonder if a coat of clear nail polish would work? I'm sure that it would have to be reapplied to keys quite often, but I've used it on other things (like zipper pulls) and it seems to do the trick.

Not much luck killing the odor, but I have found that patchouli oil rubbed on them makes the smell more bearable.

gf - I have been using nailpolish on some of the non-mechanical items -I worry about coating keys though..

reader - thanks for the patchouli oil rec, I'll give it a shot!

An old spell for money said to rub cinnamon, clove and patchouli oils on the coins before spending them, and you will get them back. I found that the combo makes the coin purse have a pleasant smell.
