I went to a store today to look at some sizes and they tried desperately to convince me to change to a round from an asscher. They told me it''ll look "fake" to the majority of the people out there and they dont even carry them because of how unpopular they are. They had 10 people there all telling me what a horrible choice it was.

Im feeling really dejected this week ..... i do like the rounds as well. It seems so hard to find a nice asscher. Maybe a round is just the easier choice.

Anyone else in this situation? How did you know for sure what shape was for you?

That''s awful how they pressured you! They don''t carry them; that''s why they don''t want you to "want" one.

Don''t let today''s experience discourage you from getting what you want. Try on as many shapes (square, marquis, oval, round, emerald cut) as you can. That''s how you decide what appeals to you.

This is very funny because I was originally going for an asscher e-ring as well. It''s still the shape I like most, but I ended up with a round brilliant solitaire. I was looking in the lower color and clarity grades, and asschers just don''t hide flaws as well as RBs do. Also, I felt that asschers faced up quite small compared to the RB stones that I saw. All things given, the RB was the better choice for me although my favorite shape is the asscher. Maybe someday.

In no way, however, does an asscher look fake. What a weird comment for that sales person to make. If anything, RBs would be more easily mistaken for a fake diamond than an asscher. I don''t even think I''ve seen an asscher CZ.

First I bought a nice round, then I got asshcher fever.
I could have saved a lot of money if I just stared out with the asscher.

No shape is superior.
You buy what you like, but don't decide till you see a good asscher in person.

Have you seen some asschers in real life yet, or only in pics?
Asscher's hypnotizing hall of mirrors effect does not happen in a pic.

Gleam makes good points.
Asschers face up small and show body color and inclusions so you have to keep the color, clarity and carat up.
Oh, but if you can swing it it is soooooooooooo worth it.

Ugh, I loathe manipulative sales tactics. I believe what they were trying to say was, "We do not carry that, but we want your money!" Alas, this isn''t really the way to get it.

Asschers are lovely stones. They do *not* look fake in the slightest. Find a store where you can try them on to be sure (any PS vendors near you?), but stick to your guns. If you want what you want, you should be able to get it - and I bet Storm will help you find a kickin'' one.

Nope, no pricescope vendors near me.... all would be a plane-ride away although i''d be ok with a quick trip if neccessary.

I have seen a 2 c G VS1 asscher when we were in vegas in September and I LOVED it. However, the farther away we get, my memory is fading.

Gleam, i keep wondering if the same thing will happen to me. The rounds do look a lot larger and you do need to be more discerning with the specs of the asscher.

I''d found one i liked with bluenile that was 14K but it got sold and i havent seen anything else i love yet on paper..... probably because i''m feeling so overwhelmed. I''ve found comparable stones for about 4K more (which i''m ok with spending), but i cant get over the feeling of having "missed the boat". I''m nervous about finding a vendor that just wants to "sell me" rather than help me find the best stone.

I''m looking for between 1.95 - 2.5 minimum G VS2 (I dont mind fluoresence, i kind of like it) for under 19K but i''d really like it to be closer to 15K unless it''s on the larger end. The problem seems to be that you just really cant tell without seeing the stone, whether or not it''s nice.

Ugggggggg, why do have to have such a thoughtfull BF that wants me to pick out what will make me happy? If he had just bought me something before I became too knowledgable.... i''d have loved it. Now i''m just worried about making a mistake.

what a horrible experience!

i would be so angry if i went into a store and they told me that an asscher would look fake. i love asschers and i am currently in the process of buying one even though i have never tried one on. how do i know if it is the shape for me? i guess i''m not 100% sure that it is but i feel like it is enough to know that i really love the way they look, i love their distinctive patterns and i love that they are different and unique.

i would encourage you to reach out to some of the PS vendors despite not being able to visit them in person. i am currently working with Good Old Gold and so far the experience has been very pleasant! i let them know what i was looking for and what my budget was and they were able to find me a great looking asscher! since i can''t visit the store and see the stone in person, they sent me tons of pictures and even made a video of it for me! i feel very confident in the purchase i am about to make.

Wow, I certainly wouldn''t go back to that store again. How rude of them. Shape, like size, is a personal choice. Go for what speaks to you. That does sound
like a manipulative sales tactic. They should try to help you get the perfect stone for you not the easiest one for them to get. That makes me mad FOR you!

Thanks Canada Ham.... i''m from Western Canada and the not having any vendors near here is "buggy". THe video thing is a great idea. I wonder if they have some generic ones linked on their site.

Kenny, if it''s not to impolite to ask..... where did you get your stone? (It''s amazing
18.gif
) And, again if you dont mind me asking, do you have a link to it''s stats?

Thanks AG.
I bought my asscher, in my avatar, from Good Old Gold.
They were wonderful during and after the sale even though I was a finicky customer.

Here is GOS's listing for my asscher: Link

Some pics of it are in Pricescope's Show Me The Ring forum: Click

Thanks luv2sparkle..... yeah, it was not fun. I feel like the fun keeps getting sucked out of this whole process. If i was just "looking around" or "checking things out", it probably wouldnt bother me so much but we really really want to get a stone and are ready to buy. That doesnt mean we''re just going to get something for the sake of getting it, we''ll wait for the right one. But it sure would be nice if the right one showed up in the next week or so..... or, at the bare minimum, that some real progress had been made.

It is not really all that surprising to hear about your B&M experience. There are a few threads on B&M and maul experiences that are actually quite hilarious to those of us that have learned a little bit about diamonds here on PS.

I went to maul stores when I first began looking and most of them talked to us like we were stupid. I was ignorant on diamonds for sure (at the time) but not stupid. Actually I am glad they treated me that way because I quickly figured out I needed to know a lot more about diamonds before dealing with any of them. If they would have treated me better I might have wound up paying twice as much for half the diamond!!!!

So do not dispair...
With a little bit of time on PS you will soon know more about diamonds than most of the folks in the B&M stores. There is a wealth of information here as well as tons of help and support from great people.
Secondly, give yourself a break. Take a breath and relax a bit. Take the pressure off of yourself. No need to rush the purchase of something that will last a lifetime. When you have gained enough knowlege and have found the right diamond you will likely "just know" that you are ready and have found your stone!!!
Give yourself permission to make this the funnest purchase of your life!!!!1

I feel your pain as I had a similar situation just yesterday

... link. I'm so sorry and if you love an asscher then get that. In the end it's your stone and your ring and you must love it. Please don't ever let somebody tell you what to wear and also realize that yes, maybe today rounds are the most popular, but whose to say twenty years from now it won't be asschers, or princess instead? Here's something else to ponder. My previous (and first) diamond was a 3/4 carat D, si2 that faced up like a .6 carat (ouch!). The sparkle on that was flat as a pancake yet so many people would compliment me on such a beautiful diamond.

They told me it'll look "fake" to the majority of the people out there...

Point is that the majority of the people out there don't know what their looking at anyway.

Personally, I'm a bit green

If only we could clone it, and bring the price down, as i''m sure that a similar stone would be out of my price range.

How long did it take you to find it Kenny?

How long did it take you to find it Kenny?

No time at all since I wasn't shopping.
I stumbled across it.

I saw Isaku5 was considering it and fell in love with it.
When she decided against it I grabbed it.

This was one of the threads, where she was considering three different asschers, that got my heart rate up.
clicky

More technical discussion on it and asschers here. Link

I got all excited for you while i was reading the thread..... hoping she chose the smaller one so you''d get it. (It was a real cliffhanger)

I''m glad you got it, it''s a beaut. Now I really really would like fluoresence.

Ditto!

For me it was the fire of antique cuts. I ended up with a modern cushion which is pretty darn firey. 11 months later I am still in
