Hi

Just a quick question for the australian pricescopers ( and Garry if you see this)

With an austrlian appraisal do they confirm or make note of the cut of the stone normally. I have an AGS 0 ideal cut stone, and really wanted that to be reflected in my appraisal so that if anything were to happen my insurance company would look for an AGS 0 ideal cut stone ( australian insureres will normally source the diamond and not hand over money from my understanding), and not end up with a local mall stone with who knows what cut parameters.

I spent a lot of time to find an AGS O ideal cut and wanted the H&A - so when I had my diamond appraised locally, he just said it was a "good" cut, now that isnt sitting to well with me, cut is subjective, so if somehting were to happen a ''good'' cut at the local mall will probably not be the same as my AGS ideal cut - nor am I likely to get a H&A pattern. When questioned he mentioned that H&A is a marketing tool, OK, no problem with that, but it is a look I like and want again, and that his ''good'' cut was fine as it was all subjective - arghhhhh..........

the AGS certification no is mentioned on the appraisal so I am hoping that the insurer will use that to chase up the parameters if something were to happen. I am just not sure why I should go through the issues of insuring if what I may get in the event of something happening is just a ''good'' cut, I am paying to insure that if something were to happen, I could get another AGS ideal cut, H&A, -

what have others found, how are your appraisals taking into account cut and the type diamond you have. Mention was made of colour, clarity and size, but cut is key for me.

Should I expect to see reference to the fact that the cut is AGS ideal cut being made on the appraisal? I expected this, but now I am just confused.

thanks

The cut grade should be mentioned on the valuation. The should also be a photo showing the H&A pattern.

In my experience, Australian valuers are terrible at actually valuing well cut stones, especially uncommon ones such as AGS 0 princesses and H&A melee.

However, in my experience, most insurance companies go through an adjuster. Essentially they let you choose a vendor, then the adjuster rings up the vendor and they settle on the price the insurance company will fork out, which the amount on the valuation should cover quite well.

There are a handful of insurance companies that pay cash (sorry, don''t know them by name), which makes it easier for both the consumer and vendor.

Thank you so much Nikhil for your reply, hmm not sure now if I should get another appraisal with someone who will take my cut into proper account or if the mention of the ags certificate number should be enough to point them in the right direction should there ever be a need.

BTW, It is great to see an australian jewellery company with an internet presence on here.

Thanks again,

Anyone else who can chime in with recommendations for appraisers in melbourne or their own experience with recognizing cut?

thanks
