Im completely new to this site so forgive me if i dont get it quite right...Ive been engaged for over a month now but cant find the right ring. I absolutely love asschers but i have a small budget. £1300-1600 ($2100-2500). I think the largest carat weight i could get would be about .45 which i know is tiny. I do have small hands, my ring finger is 3.5 (uk size g). I have been told by a local jeweller that i cant afford baguettes as sidestones which is a shame but i could get a pave setting. I have seen pave rings with a halo around and wonder if that would be a good option for me to make the centre diamond look bigger. Any suggestions, advice or comments at all would be much appreciated

I would focus on the center stone and set it in a simple solitaire and then upgrade the setting for an anniversary... Most of the vendors here on PS will source Asscher cut diamonds upon request.

I agree with Todd and would focus on the center stone for now. Asschers look beautiful in a solitaire setting. Also, depending on color and clarity you can get a bigger stone than .45ct within your budget.

I agree, asschers need some size to get the full effect.
The smaller ones are still pretty you just don''t get the full effect.

Thankyou everyone for your comments. This is what a jeweller I have been in touch with has sent me to give an example of a setting. He also sent me a similar one but with milgrain down the sides of the band, What do you guys think? Stick with a plain band? Thanks.

Its a very pretty setting, that or a plain band could work well. Of course if an Asscher is your dream then don't deviate but I just wanted to mention a traditional emerald cut might be an option?

Some can resemble Asschers, or you can get the more elongated shape EC. Are you working with this jeweller to find you an Asscher?

I have asked him to send me some specs for the diamond as he hasnt sent me any info on this yet whatsoever. It''s early days!

Definitely, take your time doing this - it will pay dividends! As you are in the UK you could contact Dr Indira Marchant at

www.bestdiamonds.co.uk she has access to many many diamonds and might be able to find a beautiful asscher for you.

It will be an additional £300 for platinum. That takes the price for 0.45carats in platinum to 1800. My boyfriend will have a heart attck haha. And it''s soo small a diamond too

What type of lab report is he referring to? To the best of my knowledge none of the major labs are UK based such as GIA, AGS or HRD....

A halo setting would definitely make the diamond look larger, good idea.

It would be useful if he can explain, basically the major grading labs are GIA, AGS ( more often seen in the US I believe) and HRD, so ask him the name of the lab that graded this diamond/s and their location. If we have that it will be helpful as I would like to know exactly what he means by this otherwise we have no way of knowing who graded the diamond and the accuracy of the grading.

Do you think if I went for something like this emerald cut it would give a similar effect as an asscher as it is relatively square. Or would a same weight asscher look as good? I''m just wondering if it is worth getting a 0.5 carat asscher or if it is too small to get the effect, even tho I really love asscher

Miss C - I would steer away from double prongs on an asscher under a half carat because you're in danger of them overwhelming the stone.

Please speak with Luke or Clive at diamondgeezer.com (phone them - don't look on their website because they're diamond dealers and only a tiny proportion of their diamonds are online). They've sourced me tons of diamonds and made the most phenomenal bespoke pieces AND I've bought some off the shelf settings from them too. The quote you've been given seems a little high and I'm sure you could match the price but get a slightly bigger diamond. Diamondgeezer normally sell diamonds with GIA certs but can buy with other certs if you prefer. Their uncerted stones (that they pick) are superb and it's certainly worth investigating that route to save a bit of money.

Just did a quick search on their site for you. You can definitely do better than you've been quoted and get a much larger diamond. However, don't forget, this is only a small selection of what they have and I'm positive they'll be able to help:
