I''ve found an Asscher that I find dazzling, and will likely purchase it just for that reason. (1.07 F VS1) The table dimension seems good (65%), the depth appears - numerically - pretty deep (75.1%), but the stone is again dazzling.

My one question though. Through all the Asschers I''ve seen in the past few months of learning and shopping, this is the first high quality stone with windmills that don''t appear to meet in the center of the stone, they don''t appear to originate at the cutlet and extend to the corners. They each appear to begin halfway up the steps, all 4 in symmetry.

I found a photo online which represents how these windmills appear http://www.madisondiamondrings.co.uk/loose_diamonds/8.html

Is there any reason to question this stone due to this windmill peculiarity? Is this acceptable as an Asscher cut?

Thank you for any and all help!
Tim

I wouldn''t call that acceptable as an Asscher. It looks like they stopped cutting the corner pavillions short of the center and then finished it off like a baguette. The middle center of the diamond looks like a baguette. Maybe a weight saving measure to get over 1 ct? But if you like it and find it dazzling...

that stone is utter and complete crap
It smells from 10 miles away.

that''s you told!!

If you really think this is the one and it dazzles and you are happy with the price then go for it regardless of the numbers. You have to see the diamond and not rely solely on the dimensions - allegedly!!! And it looks like you''ve done that.

Good luck whatever you do and please come back with pics.

Is it a good asscher. No. Definitely.

Is it a diamond that looks beautiful to you and that you are dazzled by? Yes. Definitely.

Does it really matter then if it''s a ''good'' asscher if it sings to you and makes your heart race? No. Defintely. Just make sure you get a great price on the sucker since it is too deep and the steps are off.

I agree with Gypsy....

But, if you are open to looking at other asschers (as this can be a very long process to find "THE" stone)... why not check out some of our great PS vendors? Many have wonderful return policies.
You can also search through the virtual stone inventory here on the pricescope front page.
Here are some vendors that I have found helpful:

Goodoldgold.com
whiteflash.com
Uniondiamond.com

Good luck with your search!

Thank you all for your opinions!

I’ve shopped for four months now, so there’s no reason not to take a little more time to be sure. Well, other than the pressure from increasing look in my girlfriend’s eyes asking “WHEN THE @#$% ARE YOU POPPING THE QUESTION?!?!?” ;)

That stone really does dazzle (I made sure even out of spotlighting and compared with other fiery stones), but the windmill looking more like four isosceles triangles pointing to the cutlet did make me pause. It does not look bad, but as everyone said – it doesn’t look (and isn’t) Asscher. And I think I do want that ability to know I bought an Asscher cut, not a compromise cut.

I’m not that far from GOG, so I think I’ll take a trip out to see them this week. I do like the thoroughness of their website, that instills some confidence up front.

Again, thanks everyone for taking the time to help me out!

Honestly, if you want an asscher, I''d keep looking. When you find a correctly cut one, it''ll more than dazzle you! I think asschers are the most romantic stones...their beauty is mesmerizing.

Perfect! Call Jon on Tueday (closed Mon.) and tell him what you''re looking for so he can get a good selection ready.

Agreed! If you thought a sub-par asscher was dazzling, wait until Jon finds some true beauties!

Hi there. My fiance gave me an Ering with an Asscher as the centre stone. The ''X'' in the stone you showed us doesn''t look quiet right to me. My fiance and I had looked on many Asscher stones but have never seen one like that. Perhaps it''s a newer cut because honestly, I am no expert. Just my personal opinion. But it''s really up to you. If you like it, what others think should not be a problem. But I should recommend that you shop around first!
