Hello everyone! I just joined this forum today and love it! So much information and so many helpful people. :)

I just purchased this asscher diamond from James Allen.
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?find=1&cid=130&item=1036371

I''ve decided to go with Leon because I love his solitaires. I like the very thin look (either 1.6mm or 1.8mm).

I can''t seem to decide between these two:
r572 - http://www.artofplatinum.com/4images/details.php?image_id=255
r1005 - http://www.artofplatinum.com/4images/details.php?image_id=431

I see that r572 and r1005 are both thin, the only difference is that r572 has the cathedral (higher) setting, and r1005 has a lower setting. Is there any benefit as to picking one over another?

Also, I am going to want to wear a plain platinum band next to this solitaire. Not sure if this would affect the choice between the two.

Lower can be more secure in terms of hitting things with the ring, but if it''s too low, it may affect the ability of the band to sit flush. =)

I would recommend that you see the side views. I have the classic solitaire which is set very low but it does have the cathedral sides. It couldn''t be any lower. So be sure you see examples of those rings with the profile view.

I personally prefer the look of the cathedral, but really its just a personal preference, IMO...

Me too, but I agree that it''s what you like that''s important. Not what we like.

Did you look at solitaire r907. That''s the one I''m gonna get someday! Between the two you posted, I would do the cathedral setting.

thank you so much everyone! i have to really think about this. you are right, it is really a personal preference.

by the way, is anyone familiar with the capuchonne solitaire by Leon?

I can't say I'm really familiar with it, other than looking at it before on his site. However, what I can tell you from speaking with him about it, is that he doesn't particularly like that ring. So if you're interested in it, don't expect him to be enthusiastic about it.

I have a cathedral set LM and it is really not that high, I love low profile settings and I think even if it were a tich higher I would still be happy.

Cathedral or not cathedral is a personal preference, some love it some hate it.

Ellen!! I just saw your square emerald aquamarine. OMG!! I love it so much! It''s so beautiful.

I wonder if Leon could set my asscher like Ellen''s (rounded prongs) but with some modifications (without cathedral and with the r1005 tubular shank). I also want it to be as thin as possible. What do you all think about this idea?

As for what you''re wanting, in the end it sounds like you''re basically back at the r1005. I''m a little confused on the prongs, are you saying you want rounded? Mine are claw, so I just wasn''t sure what you meant! But I think if that is the setting/look you''re after, go for it!

Sorry for not being clear. I think yes, I basically like the style of r1005. but the claws that extend from the donut till the top of the diamond in that style is straight, making the side profile looks like a "V". I really like your aquamarine's side profile; it looks more like a "U" and it looks like a flower! I wonder if this would work or if it would look good...

I wonder what Leon would think of this. I saw that you had some issues dealing with him... It's my first real jewelry and I feel totally consumed by this setting decision.

Ok, I gotcha now! Sure, I wouldn''t think it would be a problem to round them, and I think it would look fine. As for what Leon would actually think about it, who knows?!

It''s kind of a crap shoot with the guy, to be perfectly honest. Some have no trouble at all, some do. I wish I could assure you it will go smoothly, but I don''t do that. All you can do is ask, and hope he doesn''t have a problem with it.

I was wondering if it would look too "rounded" (tubular shank, curved claws that extend from the donut) on an asscher and I am not good enough with the computer to create a model. So I guess I''ll just have to ask! Leon''s office is apparently right across the street from James Allen so they will get the diamond on Monday. I will talk to him on Monday (hopefully) and will report back! :)

Well, to me, it''s mostly personal preference. If you like it, it isn''t wrong! But if you ask him, and he doesn''t agree with it, are you ok with that? Because in the end, it is your ring.

Hey Ellen! I think I would be ok with it if Leon were to tell me that something wouldn''t work. :)

I just came across this other design on his website and thought it looks good too. ARGH! I would get it without the micropave though.

Then I don''t think you have anything to really worry about.

I really like that setting. I think it would look fab!

Thank you so much for all your help Ellen. You are so kind and patient! :)

Aw, you are very welcome!

Let us know how it goes!

I know some, including dear El, have had trouble with him. If he nixes something that you want, just say "no" (unless it's for structural reasons). Remind, he who pays the piper...
