While looking at rings with the bf, I tried on a royal asscher today and i'm officially a convert! Unfortunately they are mostly out of our price range, so i've been looking at some other options online.

What are the specs I should look for?

What are your opinions on this blue nile 0.8 carat generic asscher?

Carat weight:0.80
Cut: Very Good
Color: E
Clarity: IF
Depth %: 67.5%
Table %: 61%
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Girdle:Thin to Very Thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 5.27 x 5.17 x 3.49 mm
Length/width ratio: 1.02

I wouldn't work with Blue Nile for a fancy like an asscher. The majority of asschers out there are dogs and you can't buy the by the numbers. Blue Nile won't provide you with even a pic, let alone and ASET. And I wouldn't buy an E unless I couldn't find a lower color and I wouldn't buy a anything more than VVS2 clarity and have a strong preference for VS.

Asscher are small for their carat weight as it is.

Another member bought and returned this one (she was deciding between two stones as you can see from the thread below) and as you can see from this thread it's gorgeous. It's a VERY rare eyeclean SI and F color and it's a carat and it's BEAUTIFUL.

Here's the rest of the information on the stone: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/new-asscher-from-james-allen-to-evaluate.172436/

STILL AVAILABLE: http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/F-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Asscher-Diamond-1260282.asp Put this one hold IMMEDIATELY. Seriously. Just trust me. You can always remove the hold if you don't want it. It's a needle in a haystack stone. $4,080 and a full carat.

Sweet find, Gypsy! that IS a nice stone... Put it on hold Raquel!

I have an asscher and this one is gorgeous!! I loved the clipped corners, it's hard to find one that has nice cut corners and gorgeous faceting! And an eye clean SI in an asscher is a fantastic find, usually you are forced to pay the premium for a VS. I agree put this baby on hold!! This one will also face up a bit larger than other 1ct asschers, another huge plus, and the table under 60 :lickout:

Oooh thanks gypsey

I would buy the eBay royal asscher if I could give up the finger coverage of my rb. :(
Maybe one day..

This is so true!!! I bought a 1ct asscher last year and I love love love it, however, 6 months later I began craving the finger coverage that I gave up to have the asscher. :blackeye: A 1ct AC will have the same spread as a .7 RB and the .8 you posted will only face up like a .5 RB, so if you are hoping that a 1 ct asscher will look the same size on your finger another cut, it won't. That said asschers are amazing with their large bold flashes of color and you could stare into the stone all day long, its very different to the busy disco ball look of other brilliant cuts, its much more refined and elegant and my personal preference is for the larger sizes, so my personal honest advice would be to either keep the size up, or select a setting that will give you some additional finger coverage, it really is amazing how quickly DSS (diamond shrinkage syndrome) sets in.

Well that is the true reason I bought a round. I originally wanted an amazing asscher but I knew I wouldn't be happy with the size. So I figured until I could afford a 3ct asscher, then a rb half that size would have to suffice. I do have an asscher three stone ring for now but it doesn't really satisfy the craving.

ETA to remove map link. I'm on tap talk and have no idea how that map link got on my post?!

Totally agree. I have a 1.09 asscher and have a halo around it. In a plain setting it was too small for my size 6 finger after DSS set in.

OMG - where is the OP? I've been staring at that James Allen F asscher for days and need her to buy it! ;) It needs to go to a pricescoper so I can stop coveting it (will get better when I get my diamond back in 4 weeks!) - and so someone can properly appreciate it. I went through all the alternatives on JA and it's an AWESOME price and quality! And I agree - needs a halo! Check out LaurenThePartier's non-diamond halo for an alternative (even though I love diamonds...) Or a baguette halo- oooohh!

Had to scrap that idea as anyway I tried to get it made it ended up being way out of budget. To get one done, and done well you are looking at 5k with todays prices. At that point, and for a one carat stone, put the money toward a larger center. Sigh. I do wish someone would get one on a colored center though.

Here's another idea for OP - a bezel set around the stone, in an art deco style ring. From SN Queens in LA (the budget Single Stone alternative!) - super reasonable for handmade work ($2600-ish). GORGEOUS quality! This is an emerald, would be shorther in an asscher. Believe it or not, that stone is 5.8 x 5.4 mm (my ring size is 5.25 but this ring was probably a 6).

YES! Bezel set with airline and halo around that. http://www.pearlmansjewelers.com/jewelry-designers/beverley-k-jewelry/rings/102PP1/ Similar but for a round. If you like the look you can also call Pearlmans and ask if Beverly K can make you this setting or one like it (they have a few variations) for an asscher (they had some flexibility with stone shapes for their settings but not for every setting). If so... the Beverly K settings are 1500 or so. Just ask to add milgrain around the bezel on the center.

I'm disappointed as well, I had hoped we would be talking about settings with her. :((

I really like the SN Queens site, I wish they showed more of their collection. Do you have personal experience with their work?

I'll start a separate thread with all my trips to all the different stores around here. :) I do wish they would post more stuff, they have really nice jewelry! I have no personal experience other than trying on their rings twice, but they get great reviews from repeat customers on yelp. Everything I saw was very high quality, and they also have vintage rings there. That particular one in the picture was gorgeous, about $8500 total, $2600 without the 1 ct emerald stone. Everything is handmade in-house. One thing I didn't like was that the undergallery needed work - it was very plain and didn't do the ring justice. Even Beverley K rings have a nicer undergallery. They custom make everything, so I'm sure that could be changed out.

Webdiva - you are on FIRE with these great ideas!!! Please post photos next time you are trying on rings - - you have great taste in your links, so I'm sure you are trying on amazing rings!!

I loved Gypsy's link to the baguette/step cuts surrounding the asscher - wow!!!

I also really love the octagonal bezel with the airline above. So hard to pick a favourite!

Haha! Thanks, will do! Sometimes I take pics, sometimes I don't feel comfortable doing it - depends on the attitude of the person helping me. It's sometimes intimidating to go into these high end places on a budget!

That seems like a great price for a handmade piece. I would love to see more of their work..and I look forward to see your new thread! I was just thinking yesterday that it would be nice to see some custom pieces from some less familiar benches. Thanks for sharing!

*sorry for the thread jack!
