How'dy, I was hoping I can get some thoughts on an asscher cut. I would like help selecting and determining whether the image is real. What your thoughts on the ASET and video?

It's a 1 Ct D VVS2. The second option has significant bright red but white in the middle.

I had posted early (some time ago) and during lock down, I cancelled.

First one has to much contrast it might be ok in a pendant but not a ring.

The second is a classic case of bad p3 angles.

2nd example: Karl, while I'd like to pretend I saw what you're saying, I certainly did not. Why does the ASET look so much worse than the video? The video looks attractive to me. What crosses your big brain when you see it?

Thanks @Karl_K !! Really helpful. I wasn't sure how to interpret the blue, it seems desirable but only a reasonable quantum.
My dealer shown me another diamond. This looks much better and closer to reference ones. What would your thoughts be on this?
Significant areas of red, bright return.
Medium Blue - good contract.
White - some / good level?

@Karl_K I'd like to pick your brain.

Windmills on Diamond #1 are narrower than Diamond #3. Is that what you mean?

Unfortunately, I'll get to see it in real life once I "buy it". From an ASET point of view, is it the excellent range or would you say the white's bring it down to a "good" band

Ghosh reading into ASET and P3 angles right now. Great resource and very technical!! I need to give my eyes a break

I cant mark on the image but see where the windmills looks like they get thin quickly.
The should flow evenly down in a wedge shape.
Looking closer there is an optical allusion going on there.
Anyway the aset; 1 being best and 5 the worst its around a 3 due to all the white outside the table and some under the table.

Wow! I didn't it would rate that low! I thought it may still be a "good" diamond but not excellent

Appreciate your help mate. How long you been in the industry

Learning points for me
* Avoid white in / around the table.
* Decent level of blue contrast but not too much
* Keep green to a limit
* Windmill, I am having hard time seeing the windmill

I have been in the industry since 2008, have been at PS since 2003.
The windmill is the wedge shaped area here there are 4 of them so it looks like a windmill.
They should evenly taper towards the center.

I just spoke to my dealer, he said this is the best stone he can find. Plus I won't find a better diamond unless I want to spend extra ~US$2,500.

Alternatively, is it possible to find an "excellent" ~1.2c Asscher for under US 7,000 online or am I being unreasonable? I can order online and have my jeweler set it

Amazing!! This is such a great community. If there is someone who is willing to help, it would make my year and I will owe a beer and some bubbles

My preferences: F+ | VS2+ / eyeclean | Symmetry: Ex | Size: ~1.2c

I have landed on a design with trapezoids on the side. I think it looks really classy

FYI Karl designed the Octavia diamond which is like an assher on steroids.

You can see one on this thread

I'm going to throw a few out there. Coudnt really find any with wider windmills. Hopefully, Karl can comment on which ones dont have good light
return or just have a funky cut.

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/asscher-cut/1.21-carat-e-color-vs2-clarity-sku-6327301 Too much contast facing up? Has a pretty
mesmerizing center though IMO.

If you can come down to a G, Adiamor has a selection. I cant tell much from the videos though...

I like the shape of this one but cant really tell you whether its a good performer or not.

 Wow!!! That is amazing. Seems like the ideal balance of step cuts and brilliance. @Karl_K amazing work. Begs the question, is that an option

Has the most potential based on video, report and ASET image needed to verify.
Thanks @tyty333!! Really appreciate your help. I like the video of #3
I've got the GIA certificate, proportions seems really good. But they don't have an ASET and saying unable due to COVID. I that expected? I thought they have ASETs for all diamonds

I like that second one - but it might just be the video lighting/setup? Have they (Adiamor or their suppliers) changed it recently? It seems to have more contrast than other videos I've seen (either there or elsewhere - I can't remember!)

The Octavias are awesome :) but, er, somewhat costly... lol

IIRC they take a week to cut (!) to the required tolerances (that have to be hand-cut because the computer tolerances are not tight enough!) so there is a huge amount of labour and skill to pay for.

Yoram at www.gemconcepts.net cuts them and sells them direct - he has recently cut one in a Lab Grown diamond, which might work out cheaper due to the lower base cost of the rough, but the labour costs are still there! IIRC he has said that he would need to cut to a minimum of 2.5ct to cover costs, which would still be 5-figures... lol (I may be wrong - no harm in asking him if you are interested!)

Jann Paul sells them as well - I presume they buy off Yoram - and have some good videos on their site, but it's perhaps best to not look at them if you are not in a position to afford one! :D lol

https://www.jannpaul.com/module/mediaplaylist/list?media_id=1&media_c=18

IIRC this was was $12.5k:
https://gemconcepts.net/product/colorless-octavia-diamond-1-22-carat/

Check out his vintage asschers as well, though - they are pretty awesome and (I think) not so labour intensive:

Sometimes they can get ASETS, sometimes not. I think it has definitely gotten harder due to COVID.

Agree, not looking good. I have a hard time with those Adaimor videos. Just really hard to tell whats going on.

Doesnt hurt to ask Yoram. Find out about how big a 1 carat will be. You know Asschers face up small, unfortunately.
What finger size will this be going on?

I showed my friend this last night whilst we are out. Incredible!!!! I didn't realise asschers could have this much brilliance

I'll try the Contact us section of www.gemconcepts.net

You make a really good point. My girlfriend is petite (150cm) and finger size would be J 1/4 / 53. Do you think 1c would look small on her?

Octavia will be a tough bet. I'll reach out to Yoram anyway

Adaimor, the ASET is not great!
I've emailed Good Old Gold to see what they have.
Makes me think Diamond #3,is the best ASET I've seen.T I am okay with the sharper windmills, worried about the leakage.

Is there any dealer that may have an excellent cut?

Diamond #3 summary.

They were one of our dealers at one time.
The best way to get one at this time is to contact Yoram directly at http://www.gemconcepts.net/

You put a diamond from Yoram on her and it will be amazing.
