Aside from bling, what's your "big ticket vice?"

I had a thing for expensive purses there for a while. I have a red patent leather Valentino, a charcoal grey patent leather Fendi, a Ferragamo. I would love to be able to get some nice shoes, but I have monster feet and the nice designers don't make 'em for me.

So what about you? What are your other big ticket vices?

Horses. They are a BIG BIG ticket. Right now I have two. I'm scheming on a third b/c he is gorgeous, but I doubt it'll happen unless my cousin decides to buy my 6 year old while she's training him.

Guns - I swear I am going to start collecting them. I've become rather fascinated. I try to do my research and want the best for shooting, but there are some collectors' guns that I'd love to save up for.

My boss has the most amazing collection of guns. Some of them are 200+ years old. It's pretty cool. I'd never even held a gun until last year. They terrify me (but then again, most things terrify me).

Do plane tickets count? That is where the majority of my money goes...LOL. I am a travel junkie.

I don't think I have any other big-ticket vices. But I do have a lot of little ones - books, clothes, perfumes. I collect fancy umbrellas, and knives, and gorgeous dolls. The thing is, when it comes to the other stuff, I'm a big 'ole bargain hound: I find it hard to feel guilty about clothes when my priciest piece was a Bill Blass dress I got for $160 (original 1K). Virtue, thy name be cheapness!

Would my children count? :cheeky: I tend to spent most of my money on their clothes, activities, etc.

Ditto. A lifetime of clothes, food, shoes, activities, education and cars is pretty expensive!

It's not really "mine" but at the same time it is because me and SO drive it together:

We have an Audi R8 (but in red). We've the equivalent of the car cost into the car with aftermarket things so its our baby big time.

Besides that, I don't really have anything else I would consider "big ticket"....except my dog because she sucks money out of me like crazy.

Yep. I'm pretty cheap. I rarely buy clothes and DH buys all my purses as gifts. Travel is the one thing I'll really save for. Anything can happen to "stuff" in my opinion, but no one can take my travel memories from me.

Travel! I'm just coming out of a spending binge (I realized that I should probably buy clothes that, you know...fit me), but in general the only thing I care to spend massive amounts of money on is travel. I'm currently trying to plan a trip to NZ - I'm waiting to see if my bid for a ticket to the Rugby World Cup is accepted. If it is, I'm going! If not....I'm probably still going!

DH and I looked at our budget this year and realized our biggest spending area BY FAR is travel. We both love to travel (never a vacation day lost for us :rodent: ) and we have parents scattered in three countries...

Travel. I have a self imposed "minimum of 2 foreign countries (4 if they're in europe), and 2 out of state" travel quota to meet each year. (mexico doesn't count because it's too close) There are just too many places I need to see before I turn 40. This body is already falling apart and i'm only 30. Stupid snowboarding. :knockout:

For the last couple of years, mine has been Hermes bags. So far I have 3 Kellys, 3 Birkins, 1 Constance, 1 Evelyn and 1 Jypsiere. I'm waiting for 1 more Birkin and 1 special order which might be done some some time next year. This has killed my jewelry fund.

Kids, definitely kids. Second is house, something always needs repair or renovation. Then dogs, they need food and maintenance. For me, bling is a rare luxury actually.

crystals,koi,watches,U.S. rare coins, had two 1970 Z28 Camaros but sold them 7 yrs ago.

eta...for awhile i was playing around with high end audio equipments.

well it's not big ticket, but my other love is shoes. But I never spend more than 200. It's just that I'd buy a pair everyday if possible. I got a little Imelda Marcos living inside of me.

I don't think kids/ home improvement count as vices!

Ours would probably be wine.

Best. Answer. Evar.

Mine aren't true "big-ticket vices," but I do love designer jeans. I'll pay up to $175 for a pair, but lately, I've found some great deals at the Rack and even found a pair for 20% off at Macy's and then an additional 10% for using my Macy's card.

The other is microbrewey beer. I'm super picky about beer and must have the best. When we have company over, if they bring beverages, I expect them to spend the extra $ for the good stuff. (I don't care if they bring ritz crackers for the appetizer, just include a six-pack of Pike Kilt Lifter.)

Other than that, right now, I'm saving as much as possible and have given up many larger purchases. The only other splurges I continue are so small in the scheme of things - like organic meats and nice bubble baths (I cannot give up Philosophy 3-in-1s - tried the cheap knock-offs and they do NOT compare!)

Believe me, when both are playing multiple sports, it becomes EXPENSIVE! Hundreds of dollars - registration/playing fees, cleats, uniforms, consession donations, coach gifts, photos, designated weeks where snacks are brought for after games, etc. Maybe not a vice, but it's insanely pricey to have active kids.

Same here. The thread about how many pairs of blacks shoes made me realize that I'm a shoe addict. When I'm not on PS, I'm looking at sites like Zappos for more shoes.

very nice AN! :appl: ...when are you gonna take me for a spin?

I forgot, my biggest big-ticket vice is food (groceries and eating out). I have no problem spending $$$ on Lobster, Crab or Filet mignon. When I'm CRAVING something, even if it's $35/pound like a piece of Chilean Sea bass that I just had to have.

Fortekitty I love the yearly travel quota!!

Ours isn't so impressive, but we love to travel - right now we're making our way around America, and Canada is next on the list - I'd love to spend a couple of weeks camping in northern Canada!

Do taxes count? I feel like all of my money is going to pay taxes! Income tax, property tax, excise tax, sales tax.

I think of the bling I could buy with tax money and it puts everything I actually own to shame. :angryfire:

Other than that, I'm a sucker for stuff for my daughter. My friend recently turned me on to Janie and Jack. $100 for a Christmas dress - fortunately I already have one for her. Whew - that was close!

Thanks! I love driving it :)

I'll give you a spin anytime...just not after we use Sinfully Pink. That would be bad.

A vice can be a bad habit right? A bad habit of always wanting to improve things on my house could be a vice maybe??
