So, is anyone not cooking dinner today? If not, what are you doing instead?

I'm stuck studying mostly :nono:
Maybe I'll get to have some fun later tonight. FI was eyeing some egg nog the other day.

We're going to my mom's house for dinner this afternoon, but I'm cooking the sweet potatoes and the stuffing right now. :lickout:

Are you not going to a Thanksgiving meal tonight, Berry?
I hope you get all of your studying done!

In full on cooking mode. Bird is in the oven. Dressing (stuffing on the side) is ready to assemble, potatoes are peeled and sitting in their water. We just have to wait for the bird to be closer to done. We're thinking 3:30 - 4:00 to sit down and eat. It's just us, but we plan on sitting in the dining room, eating by candlelight, and making it special.

We are going out to a restaurant. No cooking AND we get a turkey and the fixings to bring home without the mess!

Well, I made pumpkin pie (using canned pumpkin and a Pillsbury frozen pie crust). Does that count?

My mom made everything else. She makes the best stuffing. It's fairly simple (no raisins, sausage, etc. in it -- just celery and onions) but it's delicious.

Oh, this is right up my alley! I'm not a big fan of turkey, so we've been buying a couple rotisserie chickens for Thanksgiving for the past few years. That way, I get to focus my time and energy on the dishes I love to make - stuffing, mashed potatoes, pie, pie and pie! For Christmas, it gets even better - we always have reservations at a great Chinese food place, kinda like "A Christmas Story," but without the BB gun.

We cooked, alot of people and alot of food, it was great

Nope, I don't cook, but I do eat! Well that's not entirely true-I make my specialty every year at Thanksgiving, which is celery sticks with cream cheese and olives on top.

I got to thankfully eat and not cook. I normally do cook but I was glad that it was passed on to someone else since life has been hectic lately. I love the rotisserie idea. Sides and dessert are my favorite part of thanksgiving dinner! I hope everyone had a good holiday.

I love the day after a holiday. So many leftovers!

I cook for every holiday because it's just my husband and me. We have no family together. I cook two completely different meals for every holiday, the same as I cook two different meals every night. My husband doesn't like turkey much, so I make a pot of sauce and meatballs the week before, and he has stuffed shells and meatballs after his salad and appetizers. I make turkey, sweet potatoes, fresh green beans, peas, baby carrots, and butternut squash for myself. Then we have finocchio (Italian fennel), fruit and chocolate before the dessert that comes later on. Three types of cookies and strawberry cheesecake tarts.

Tonight it's turkey leftovers for the both of us. No cooking for me :-).

Full cooking for my DH and I too yesterday! Was crazy... a formal dinner for 14. Even took out the formal china which takes soooooooo long to clean, set, clean again!

Bird was in oven at 6am, dinner at 4, and everything came out perfectly!!

Zoe- Pumpkin pie can count! I looooove pie (especially pumpkin), which I didn't get to make yet this year. There's still time.

Diamondrnglover-We ended up having tons of people come over too, I just didn't have to cook. Some people brought dishes and a bunch of us played games and put music on. It was fun and nice to see everyone. The kids just get big soo fast!

Gemgirl-All of the foods you mentioned sound soooo good. One of my mom's aunts i think, makes the most killerist meatballs. I haven't eaten a holiday dinner with that side of the fam. in like 10 years and you just reminded me. I wish I had her recipie. We really didn't have much left over from last night so I guess thats good. I can't over endulge.

Rhbgirl24- Yay! I'm glad your big dinner went off well. The formal dinners are so beautiful. I love when the table is set with the turkey and good china. :appl:

I hosted Thanksgiving dinner for the first time yesterday. I may have gone a little overboard. :) Dinner for 6 included turkey (of course), 2 kinds of dressing, parsnip bread pudding, green beans with shallots and breadcrumbs, ginger-orange carrots, 3 kinds of pie, flan, and homemade honey/cinnamon/clove ice cream.

Lots and lots of leftovers today!

Goodness, sounds like lots of work! Did you get to prep anything the day before? The menu does sound delish and fancy though.

I was able to do most of the prep work after work on Wednesday. I was up until 12:45 that night, but it was totally worth it. Thursday was a lot more fun that way. :)
