Are those breast feeding baby beanies a political statement?

I'm trying to figure out the meaning of those two letters in the second sentence of this link.
The first letter is an F.

http://bluemilk.wordpress.com/2011/07/07/how-to-do-discrete-breastfeeding/

If these baby hats are a political statement, what are they stating?
I'm not being snarky; honest question - and forgive me for being a man, before anyone get's all psycho that a man posted this.

Re: Are those breast feeding baby beanies a political statem

I am pro breastfeeding but I really do hate the 'LOOK AT ME - I'M BREASTFEEDING!!!" brigade. So what, just get on with it like everyone else does.

Re: Are those breast feeding baby beanies a political statem

Bwahahahahaha! If I had thought of this, my child would have had one for every day of the week, I swear.

eta I don't care if they are a political statement or not, and if breastfeeding is a political issue, good luck to politicians who want to debate it, that's nothing to do with me. I personally think the hats are very funny indeed, in a British seaside postcard sort of way.

Re: Are those breast feeding baby beanies a political statem

I don't like it. How about a butt print diaper cover while we are at it?

Re: Are those breast feeding baby beanies a political statem

I am really tired. I read this title expecting a picture of a breast feeding BEANIE BABY.

Totally different

bean I also expected that!!

Lady_Disdain...   at the butt print diaper

Re: Are those breast feeding baby beanies a political statem

I, too, was expecting a beanie baby.

I laughed.

Re: Are those breast feeding baby beanies a political statem

Add me to the beanie baby brigade...I thought to myself...."well, now I really WILL have seen everything"!! Color me disappointed! :cheeky:

I'm with Lottie....IMHO, it's nothing to hide or to flaunt...it's a fact of life. Get on with things....

Re: Are those breast feeding baby beanies a political statem

hahahaha I think it's funny..I wouldn't have done it tho. I did it in public but that didn't mean I wanted anyone oogling me.

Re: Are those breast feeding baby beanies a political statem

I love those hats! I remember first seeing them on etsy about a year ago. I'm not sure they are political statement, just rather cute and funny.

Re: Are those breast feeding baby beanies a political statem

That is hilarious. I nursed twins and there's pretty much no being discreet with two babies nursing so I really didn't do it in public. But if I had those hats that'd be fun! Lol!

Re: Are those breast feeding baby beanies a political statem

oh, that's political all right. Not my style and I was never once harassed for nursing any of my kids, but plenty of people are. Now that there are laws that protect nursing mothers in public places this is just taking things a step further. Unnecessary, but kinda funny. I wouldn't have used one though.

Re: Are those breast feeding baby beanies a political statem

Kenny - I think the statement is something along the lines of "I don't f****** feel like I should have to be discreet."

Re: Are those breast feeding baby beanies a political statem

Those are hilarious but you would NEVER catch my babies wearing one. Seems like a good gag gift to me.
I fall in with the "no need to advertise, just get her done" form of breast feeding.

Yuppers.

Re: Are those breast feeding baby beanies a political statem

Sorry this thread made no sense to me at all. I thought you meant beanie babies too.

Thanks VR.
That's what I suspected.

That's punny. :D

Re: Are those breast feeding baby beanies a political statem

Hilarious!

I'd have been tempted to buy them for my sisters and SIL's for fun at xmas. DD won't wear hats.

I don't see them as a political statement - they are just fun.

Political statements are made by treating breastfeeding as a normal activity, not making an obvious point out of it. I'm very much a 'I feed my child whenever and wherever' advocate - buses, trains, planes, restaurants, shops, walking down the street, on the benches in political debates, 50m underground in a mine even  . I don't try and hide away, but I also wear clothes that make it fairly hard to see an inch of skin.

My daughter is 3 in May and I still feed her in public - I get nothing but positive comments about how great it is that I do which is nice.

Pandora, I felt the same way about them. I think they are funny along the lines of seaside postcards, but I suspect that's peculiarly British humour and other people would view them differently. I love them, though! I found a pattern, and I will be making a few for a friend, who has a knitwear store near by.

Re: Are those breast feeding baby beanies a political statem

I think those are funny, but not necessary. When I was breastfeeding I tried not to do it in public... Not because I didn't want to offend anyone, but more because it was a very special, intimate thing between me and my son. I did do it at the doctor's office waiting room, and a few people did look... Seriously people, it's a pediatrician's office and I have a newborn. Get over it.

I hope you have lots of grey wool with purple splotches then so you can realistically create the wonder that is Scottish skin-tones (mentally thanking my father for his thoughtful genetic donation)!

They are definitely Donald McGill postcard-esque. In fact I sent my father and brother a link knowing that they would fully appreciate it.

Can you knit them as well or only crochet? If there's a knitting pattern, then I'd be really interested as they would be an ideal baby gift!

Pandora - there are several knit versions available on Ravelry.com (you have to join, but membership is free) - here's one, shown in nice Northern European skin tones: http://www.paapinden.dk/blog/2010/11/09/lidt-brystfikseret/.

Re: Are those breast feeding baby beanies a political statem

Pandora, I have those same skin tones. Aren't we lucky?!

I'm going to crochet, since I haven't done that in years, but I do like the Ravelry knitted version - interestingly pert little woolly nipple...

Re: Are those breast feeding baby beanies a political statem

That's funny. I like the hats, but I probably wouldn't have had my kids wear one either. I nursed in public, but I usually went back to my car to tell you the truth.

I totally thought it was going to be about beanie babies too. I thought, now that is one I don't have. What am I going to do with all the beanie babies I collected for the grandkids I don't have?

Re: Are those breast feeding baby beanies a political statem

I don't want to see women breastfeeding so I don't look. These however, would draw my eye. I don't really understand what the point of these are....

They're to draw the attention and dismay of people who don't have a sense of humor.

I did the same, wore the same, got the same and everything was good.
