Are sapphires impractical for a wedding band?

Hello!

I apologize if this post is repetative... I searched for a topic similar but couldn't find anything.

I just contacted BGD about their pretty sapphire and diamond bezel eternity. I asked if they thought this would be a durable wedding band. I was mainly concerned about the daintiness of the band (2.4mm), but he responded that the sapphires will have to be replaced in time (wear and tear) and due to it being bezel I would need to replace the whole ring.

I was a little surprised to find that sapphires would need to be replaced. I was under the impression that they're rather durable gemstones so the fact they'd need to be replaced someday never even crossed my mind! I am sure that he is correct in this matter, I just would appreciate more of an explanation and information from you lovely pricescopers :-) (Knowledge is power! Lol)

Does anybody have a sapphire wedding ring (or any jewelry, really) that you've had for a while? How have yours held up? Should I go for a more durable wedding band and just put this on my wishlist for a distant anniversary? Silly me, I have gotten so attached to this band and am slightly heartbroken that it probably isn't that practical.

Sapphires are very durable but like everything else, including diamonds, if worn 24/7, it will show wear and tear, and possibly some damage over time. It still is a good candidate for a wedding band and I would not be put off by it. Perhaps if you consider removing it once at home (to do housework, gardening and the like) the stones are likely to hold up much better over a longer period of time.

Ditto all the above!

+2. There are a myraid of antique sapphire rings floating around, some remarkably well preserved given their age. That said, nothing is impervious to wear and tear!

cheers--Sharon

Whew! Thank you, everyone! I feel much more secure.
