Heck of a storm. We are just south of 44 so we didn't have a lot happen, the Hill is closeish and had some, as did Fenton. I know a few folks in Hazelwood area that had minor damage but thankfully nothing more than that. I got pretty sad when I heard the news people asking for all available EMS and Fire to go to Hazelwood.

We were in the living room watching the weather and like "oh the sirens again"... Probably stupid.

Wow. I had to look up the storm on the Internet, ame, because I hadn't known about it. Pretty awful. I wonder if the rain we had here in the East last night was the remnants of that storm. We had some heavy rainfall. I'm not sure about the timing, though. I just know that I commented to my daughter that it reminded me of the downpour we encountered when we were once driving to South Carolina and were absolutely blinded by sheets of rain. (Only last night we saw enormous displays of lightning as well. Griffin, our dog, was very unhappy since lightning brings thunder...which is his enemy!)

It was quite a doozy. This storm is getting to I think Tennessee and beyond today. When it got into Illinois it seemed to slow down, though that's atypical usually of these. MANY of these actually get worse when they hit the Mississippi, for some reason the wall cloud intensifies when it hits the river and the tornadic activity actually just crucifies the Illinois areas. This one seemed to kinda lose steam around that river this time, it did a little damage to Alton, but then it kinda lost it's power.

It's prime time around here though I say that--we have tornadoes any time here, New Years Eve and beyond. Our weather is so random that they happen all the time. But it's prime time in late March through May.

With climate change, we seem to be having a few tornadoes as far north as Connecticut now, but they are still rare. Until I moved to Virginia in 2004 I never lived in an area that had tornadoes. Virginia may not be the area hardest hit by tornadoes, but my daughter's school had directions posted on what to do in case of a tornado (something that I had never in my life seen). For the first time I learned about leaving one's car and seeking shelter in a ditch if a tornado hit while one was driving and what area of the house was safest. All of this had been completely and totally foreign to me. Like snow to someone raised in a hot climate he had never left! I don't think there were any sirens for tornadoes there, however.

I studied physical geography in college, but I don't recall why New England doesn't usually have tornadoes. Now I want to look it up.

Glad you made it through ok, ame! All's well with me. I'm just south of 44 too, in the St. Louis Hills area, and we were just grazed. Nothing too dramatic thank goodness!

We live fairly nearby, and I bet we've been passing each other for a while without knowing it. Glad it was merely a flesh would and nothin serious! ;p North County is kinda getting the brunt of this stuff lately.
