I took a gander at Tiffany's 5th Avenue store and every single stone seemed to have amazing sparkle, however, they didn't indicate on any of them as to what type of cut they had.

Are they all ideal cut stones? They were not H&A's as the gentlemen informed me, but he said that they're all premium cuts. Whatever the hell that means.

What is "ideal" to you? There is no generally accepted definition - and even if there was one, it could only be quite narrow, not for everyone.

After all... even if Tiffany's diamonds are not H&A "ideal", Tiffany is

- or so their adds keep saying. Joke aside, their selection of diamonds is wider than the very strict requirements for H&A. I hope someone can confirm this, but I believe their selection of diamonds is based on the Tolkowsky proportions - but what degree of variation from the 'ideal' defined by the respective standard is allowed, I do not know.

I have seen varying comments on this in the past...one interesting fact is that I saw a Tiffany ring for sale on eBay last year and it appeared to have the paperwork in order and all the 'legit' markings etc...it had a table of something like 60%. I recall thinking that isn't ideal..but maybe it was an older purchase.

I was in there recently and tried on the famous engagement ring (2c and 1.72c) and my primary thought was that the stone sparkled very much but that there were no visible arrows. All round stones exhibit arrows in some way shape or form, symmetry playing a huge part in how those are visible to the viewer's eye. My stone shows the great symmetrical arrows typical of a true H&A (though mine is not branded), and I could see the difference in symmetry between my stone and the Tiff one, along with the arrows. So...premium maybe...but ideal...not in my eyes.

From what I've seen, they all seem to be nice stones, but not necessarily ideal the way we'd define ideal to be.

Tiffany's stones, in terms of proportions, seem to be in the AGS0-Ideal to AGS2-Very Good range.

That's what I figured. I just rolled in there out of curiosity to see what all the hype was about. I never thought it was THAT big of a place.
