I received this in the mail and well it's my first aqua (I know right?!?!?)

How did I do? Don't hold back- I'm a big boy, I can handle it.

1.55ct unheated Madagascan 8.6mm (you could draw blood on the culet too!) These are very representative of what I see in natural light. It's overcast today, but it sparkles like mad when the sun is out. Indoors under my CFL's it holds its color, but it's softer- more delicate (not as intense) The last picture is with my black camera being reflected into it.

Davi, you did Spectacular! I love it, saturation is beautiful, cut too -- can just imagine how it sparkles. Looks like a Ulli cut -- is it? My grade for it is Yummmmmm! Do you have setting plans?

I like the color! I'm curious about the cut as well. Can we get a profile shot?

I don't think it was cut by Uli. It was listed as precision cut. JeffDVS is the vendor, I can ask him though, but I doubt it was Uli... I'd probably have paid a much prettier penny for his work

It's a gorgeous aqua! Well done, davi.

Nice stone!!! That is representative of all the stones I've bought from Jeff though...they are all very well-done. I doubt its cut by Uli...I think Jeff has a brilliant in-house cutter...but you'll have to ask him. The trillions are great..I have a Rubellite he sold me a while back with that same identical cut.

I love how the stone has such nice saturation...not washed at at all which is why I've never been a fan of Aqua...but thats a stone I could and do like.

Davie I saw you also bought a Chrome Tourmaline recently....have you seen the ones from Jeff's site? I bought one about a week ago...I am dying to get it. Awesome stone, man!!

It certainly looks well cut. How do you find the tilt window? The biggest issue I have with my aquamarine trillion is a pretty visible tilt window with even the slightest tilt.

Sorry to be dense, but who is Jeff DVS?
--- Laurie

He's a Thai-based seller. He has cutters who cut to precision standards. He sells on facebook and ebay at Jeffdvs101.

Davi: must say I have yet to "see" you buy a bad stone. Talk about a good eye...and I saw your recent facebook pointers on pic taking. What a dramatic difference in the two pics.

Gorgeous Madagascan Aqua! I have a few myself that I love!

I think that's a problem with all low RI stones. A high crown and small table sometimes helps alleviate a sizable tilt window in low RI stones.

Davi,
Nice aqua!

I LOVE IT. I've been looking for an aqua with a similar saturation for a while. I'm glad you've found this one.

I have to really tilt this stone to even get a slice of a tilt window. I have never had a bad trillion. In fact, I think a native trillion is one of the safest cuts for beginners as I haven't encountered one that is terribly windowed.

ChrisA- Whoever cut this stone is a genius! I'm very happy with Jeff's stuff - I have a few EBay bucks that I'm gonna spend on a flanders cut just to see if I like them as much in person as I do in pictures :D

JF/Kismet/MB/Erin/TL and Venti - Thank you :D

I have to say beryls, especially aquas never really interested me until I saw this one. They've all been... well... disappointing. Either a pale blue or just too fake looking. But now I'm kinda hooked! Let's see how many beryls I can acquire before the better half says I have a problem :naughty:

Do you think I could find a green beryl (not emerald) with as nice of tone and saturation? Or am I chasing the wind?

What a dazzling stone! Thanks for sharing. If you're interested in unheated aquas, Dana at Mastercut has a lovely, glowing specimen. It is included but such a pretty blue. I posted it on SGBTS a couple of weeks ago.

Yes I certainly find that to be the case.

Thanks! That's good to know. I guess I lucked out with a bad trillion and have been avoiding them like the plague since.

I think we may fight over the same stones.

I think it's possible. When I was asking Jeff White to cut an aqua for me he showed me a piece of aqua rough that looks more green. I hope he doesn't mind that I share it here. It's a large piece of rough and I have no idea if it's still available. The morganite rough on the right was cut into his AGTA award winning design. Do you know how many times I almost clicked buy now on that one??? LOL I wish I could have grabbed that cleaner one of his though. YUM

THB- That rough looks verrrrrry enticing :naughty: I saw he had a yellow green beryl that was definitely NOT my cup of tea. LOL

It's beautiful, Davi. Congratulations!

Concave faceting seems to work well for light toned and low RI stones too, like peridots and aquamarines. I rarely see tilt windows in those designs.

Davi,
I saw the vendor comparison picture and have to admit would never have taken a second look at the aqua on his website. Are his stones truly FAR better looking than his pictures? I've also rarely seen aquamarine that look this good; I can count it on a single hand. Most are very gray but your picture is almost devoid of gray, looking very much like a zircon or irradiated blue topaz, which is even more amazing considering that it is unheated. The profile view of your aqua looks more in-line with the vendor's picture.

This is my first stone from him so I can't comment on most of his stones looking better. I haven't been able to replicate his photo, but in low diffused lighting it is a soft blue like his picture but definitely not as grey. I think his photo suffers from camera body color being reflected into the stone. In stronger natural light, that's when it looks just like my pictures. Under my CFL's (soft white) the green becomes more prevalent. My profile shot was not indicative of the stones body color. The stone is on a grey blue book in front of a black mouse with camera flash.

Here is part of the listing with a video http://vi.ebaydesc.com/ws/eBayISAPI...ory=10200&bv=mozilla&nv=2&sd=3&vct=1&caz.html

The video is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than his picture and is truer to life. The lighting goes a little funky when the stone turns around and you see the back, but that is almost exactly what I see in hand.

The video is more helpful, but I'm still not sure I would have bought the stone based on it. Maybe I'll get one of his cheaper stones just to see how it measures up in person.
