appropriate size for leverback earrings

Hi all, I am looking at getting a pair of solitaire diamond leverback earrings. Please see pic.

I'd like to get your thoughts on what carat size they should be?

I was thinking each earring should be 0.40 ct. Do you think this is an appropriate size?

Those could be made in any size, really. I think it would help you to see some so you know what various sizes look like, though. I think the diamonds in that picture are maybe around a carat each.
