hi i got an appraisal that states clarity being different than what was told to me when purchased piece, the appraisal was froma a BIRKS store in canada are they reputable appraisals because i found the appraisal to be unspecific and substandard along with being far off what I was told from a person who saw the diamonds loose.

what to do here?

thank you

This question I believe was discussed here https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/anyone-have-a-birks-appraisal.76087/

and here https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/do-birks-appraisals-overstate-value-of-piece.74290/

and, well here ... https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/birks-appraisal-in-canada-b-c-what-lab-does-it.71484/

Neil Beatty gave you this opinion (Neil, I hope you do not mind me quoting you..)

"Call up the appraiser and ask them what they mean by their value conclusion if it's not explained in the report itself. Part of the job of an appraiser is to communicate clearly to you what they mean by their various observations and conclusions."

this is a different piece

ok - can you please describe the piece then so people can help answer accurately? ie. a ring, a pendant etc. And where/who did you buy it from?

Can I please ask you an obvious question though purely out of curiousity - if you had so much trouble with Birks'' appraisal the first time, why use them again??

Ok, I’m confused.

You find the appraisals from Birks to be ‘unspecific and substandard’ and you’ve had prior unsatisfactory experience with them. Why do you continue to use them? I must be missing something.

This doesn't make them wrong, but again, if you don't trust them, who cares?

what to do here?
Ignore as irrelevant the opinions of those you consider to be untrustworthy or unqualified and hire an appraiser whose opinions will be valuable to you.

ok any recommendations on good appraisers?

How do you know that the other person you have appraising these things is any better than Birks? Appraising is about opinions, so you need to find someone who you trust. Are you in Canada?

hi yes i am in canada, are you? any reputable place you recommend? i chose birks because i thought they were reputable place for appraisals,

and just because their opinion doesn''t match your expectations, doesn''t make them dishonest..
