Anyone know what's the NYC tax for a diamond ring?

Just wondering?

8.875%, I believe.

However, if you are buying a diamond in NY and having it shipped to you out of state, you pay the sales tax in the state in which you live. If I bought a diamond from an online vendor who only has a physical presence in NY and had the diamond shipped to CA, I would pay CA sales tax (via my state income tax return).

Kitty - sorry to threadjack but when you had your stone appraised did David know it was a Leon stone?

Hi SomethingClassic- yes he knew it was a Leon stone. Any reason why?

I did the same thing but read that's not usually a smart thing to do. Don't get me wrong, I didn't feel like anything fishy was up but it's not an unbiased opinion either. David seemed very thorough though.

Yea if I could do it again, I guess I would prefer he not know, but I'm not sure how it could have been avoided since Perry had to drop off the stone. I trust the appraisal though- David's credentials are excellent, and he was very thorough. He didn't "talk up" the stone too much, he went through and verified all the aspects on the GIA report, but he was surprised to note that the F was an E in his opinion, and he showed me mine compared to a master F stone and I could see the difference myself. He said it was a beautiful stone and at a very good price, but I already knew it was a fantastic price!

Travis Lejman also saw the stone, and although he didn't do a full appraisal, he agreed it was an excellent stone, he said the same thing about the color, and the price was a very good deal. He preferred Leon's stone to the other one he saw in person with me that day, so I feel really good about it, having gotten the same opinion from 2 different PS appraisers.
