a greatjeweler? I am having a hard time finding a reliable, honest, and fair jeweler where I live. Can anyone living in Bucks County, PA ( Newtown, Richboro, Southampton, Langhorne, Buckingham, Jamison, Warminster, Warrington, Doylestown areas)recommend a great jeweler?
Thanks for your help?

I don''t think there are too many people on here from that area (but I could be wrong!). I''m somewhat close by in Hershey, and I had a really difficult time finding jewelers that weren''t mall chains in this area or getting recommendations. Your best bet might be to try asking for recommendations in the Philly area.

Sabins: Thanks for the advice. My jeweler (my family''s friend) passed away a couple of years ago and just visiting a few jewelers in my area has turned me completely off. I am looking for a halo ring and one place quoted me almost $5,000.00 for a Simon G 18kt gold setting that had about .4 ctw in micropave diamonds . I thought that was ridiculous after I found the same setting for around $1,400.00 on the internet. No one I know has any recommendations for me; only who to stay away from.

I am also close to New Jersey (Princeton, Ewing, Lawrencville, Lambertville). I don''t drive into Philly because I hate going into the city.... it is too crazy. Hopefully, there may be one person on here who has someone they can recommend.

Isn't Dave Atlas "Old Miner" in Doylestown?

I don''t live in Bucks County; I live in Montgomery County, and the jeweler I use is Mark''s Jewelers. They have two locations, one in Montgomeryville and one in Levittown. The one in Levittown might be closer to where you live. They have done a couple of custom pieces for me, and their prices are fair. The ready made jewelry is of course more expensive than what you can buy online. But overall, not a bad jeweler. Here''s their website:

I caution you about using Marks..DO NOT use Marks .. I went there when I was looking for my DH wedding band and he not only quoted me very high prices, but he lied about some of the lines ( saying that they were something that they were not ).. and the quality of the band. This was the Levittown location.

I ended up using GETZOW''s on Street Rd in Bensalem. They also have a location in NEW HOPE.

One thing, do your homework. Get your best price ( I was shopping on Jewlers Row before hand ) and they will match it.

Good Luck

Well, I use the Mark''s in Montgomeryville, and they''ve always been good to me. Their prices for custom made jewelry was in line with what I would pay with an online vendor. Their prices on ready made jewelry is admittedly higher than online, but that''s to be expected.

I believe Dave Atlas is in Philly, Jewlers Row. There are not that many competitive priced Jewlers in the Bucks area. Not that I know of, or heard about.

Most people go to Jewlers Row.

Coda, I am sure the custom pieces are done well.. and competitive priced. This was my experience at the Levittown loction.

I was just alarmed about being lied to... and quoted so high on items they had in the store.

I love Hamilton Jewelers in Princeton.

coda: I checked Mark''s out on-line earlier as well as Michael''s. I may go visit them just to see what they have. I am interested in purchasing a halo with a RB in the center and trying to decide the exact style I want. I am not sure I would purchase through them through. I looked at their in-house diamonds and was not too pleased with what they have.

crystalheart: thanks for the info about Marks. They were voted #1 in Bucks for a few years until Michaels took over that spot. Thanks about letting me know about GETZOW''s in New Hope. I am about 10 minutes away from there.

Kaleigh: Hamilton Jewelers is one that I have researched on-line and thought about visiting. I believe they carry the Simon G line and I really want to see some more of those settings up close before I decide which one I want. Hamilton NJ is doable for me.

AprilBaby: I checked and Dave Atlas is in Horsham which is not too far for me. But I thought he was an appraiser?

I'm not sure if you've tried Bernie Robbins in Newton. My friend's husband swears by them. He's purchased so many jewellry pieces and watches from them. He even had her ering custom made there and loved their work; said they were very reasonable with their prices.

I am glad someone finally could tell me something about Bernie Robbins. They are very close by, but wasn''t sure if they were very expensive or not. I went to Mayfair Jewelers in Newtown where they told me the setting I liked was $4700.00 for 18kt wg after they told me that business has been off by about 40%. I guess theythink they can make up the difference by jacking their prices up 300%. (Same setting elsewhere was about $1400.00)

My friend and her husband live in NYC but travel down to Newton (where he''s from) to get their jewellry from Bernie Robbins.

Mind you his reasonable might be different from yours but I would absolutely give them a try.

Hey soocool! Not sure if this is a little far from you, but we got my engagement ring from Bel Jewelers, it''s in the far northeast in Philly (Close to County Line Rd). When we bought the ring, the owners were chaging hands, and the new owners are super nice. We went back recently for a price quote on a custom band for my ER, and the price was right in line with the average quote from Jeweler''s Row (we got about 9 quotes altogether). The only down side is that they said they would need to hold my ring for about a month, verses a week for the places downtown. I''m assuming they don''t do custom work on-site, but that''s just a guess. They had some beautiful stuff in their cases, but I really haven''t technically bought anything from the new owners yet... will probably buy FI''s band from them, but I figured if you were in the area, you could check it out.

Hi Lynnie!

I just checked them on-line and they are not too far from Feasterville and I could take Rt 532 (I live near 532). Should be about 30 - 40 minutes from where I am. Thanks, I''ll check them out.

Hi Soo Cool.. I would call Bel Jewlers first before you make the trip. I drove by there not that long ago and they were
closed in the middle of the day.

It sounds like we are really close to one another.. I am in the Doylestown area.

Crystalheart thanks.

I have had repair work done by David Craig ( I find him very trustworthy) in Langhorne, but he is a bit pricey for some of the things I need to have done. It would be nice to find someone just a bit more affordable for repair work, etc. I have a couple of rings my daughter would like, but her fingers are bigger than mine and I want to see how much it would cost to resize.

I also want to go to various jewelers and try on different settings just to make sure I know what I want. I think I have decided at this point that I will probably go with one of the vendors here on p-scope since from what I have read thus far, that these vendors are more honest, helpful, and upfront about what you are getting versus the "limited" info I have been getting from b&m jewelers here.

Oh, and I live right off Windy Bush(Rt 232) about 10 minutes from New Hope or less (depends on how slow the people in front of me are driving!)

I am from Lansdale but I moved to Chicago 24 years ago. Small world. Dave Atlas may be an appraiser but call him and ask who HE trusts in the area.

I think you are making a wise choice... try some things on, and have one of the on line vendors do the custom work. Have you checked out White Flash ?

The area stores just seem to charge so much more...and going to Jewlers Row is a hike for you.

I am near Lower State and Bristol Roads.. The traffic near you is awful in the warmer weather but it is a beautiful area

Soocool and crystalheart: too bad I am not still there. We could have a GTG at a nice restaurant along the river!
