i recently saw a blue diamond and i thought it was really interesting but do not know anything about them...are they more expensive than white?I appreciate your input as always.

They are enormously expensive. While blue is my favorite color, I'm relieved I like the hue of blue sapphires better than blue diamonds, 'coz I know I'll never own one of those! www.icestore.com has some if you're curious about pricing...

thanx for the link quaeritur...oh my gosh! i almost fell off my seat!!!o.k. guess i will never ever own a blue diamond!well...back to my dilema...white diamond or sapphire...

Yeah, they are extremely expensive. Like over $90K a carat for some

. You can use sapphires instead, but they don't have the brilliance of a diamond or you can try one of those lab grown colored diamonds. They are some companies that specialize in lab grown colored diamonds. Probably the only way most of us could ever have a color diamond. There is a big discussion about colored diamonds on this board though, but personally if I ever bought a lab grown diamond, it would be a colored diamond like a blue, pink, or orange. There are two companies I know of that work with lab grown diamonds. The first is Gemesis and the other is Takara. They seem to do good work, the only problem is that a lot of their diamonds aren't cut with excellent/ideal symmetry or polish.

Blue cultured diamonds don't seem to be generally commercially available yet, so you might have to ask around. Takara claims their cutting quality is top notch (and H&A on rounds, so they at least care about the cutting), and I've heard Gemesis is good, so their stuff is at least worth looking at.

I'd love a blue diamond myself, or a few little ones to play with, but they don't seem to be very easy to get now, so I gave up. Please let me know if you find one, though.
