I just had an excellent experience with Scheiner (scheinerdiamonds.com) online. I found them during a search, called the number last week and the owner, Michael answered (being self employed myself, I like that). He was very familiar with his inventory.
That afternoon I called back and he remembered our discussion, I chose a GIA certified emerald shape diamond which was too big (!) for their Lucida platinum but he offered to customize the setting at no extra charge. He also guaranteed UPS shipment arrival to be on Wednesday by 10am, imperative because that's the day before the early flight for our "engagement trip", again no extra charge.
The ring arrived on time as promised, in five boxes: a UPS, another UPS, a white sealed box, a small box, and the wood lacquered burgundy box (classy touch) for the ring. Care instructions, return info, laminated GIA certificate in a clear protector included.
The platinum setting customization seems flawless, excellent work, good weight to the entire ring, very shiny for platinum (I know platinum dulls but I wanted a secure rock).
The diamond is just as he described and matches the certificate. I got what looks like a $5K to $10K ring for $2562 total.
Description
Platinum "Lucida" setting (wider type band with lattice sides to prongs) $900
Emerald shape, 1.19 carats
6.97 x 5.38 x 3.71mm (setting customized for size)
J color, I1 clarity (the inclusion is visible of course, lower side, small crystal)
Cut: very good, Polish: very good
Depth: 69%, Table: 83%, Girdle: Thin to Med, no fluorescence, no culet
Stone Price: $1662
Total: $2562
The stone is and looks big, I can't see any yellow even though it's a J, sure there's an inclusion at an I1 (I was already aware of that) but this the beauty and price of this ring, combined with their service, exceeded my expectations.
So, if in the market, I can highly recommend giving them a call, they also sell pre-set stones (good for an emergency, lol)-----Brian in St. Louis
