Anyone else find jeans insanely uncomfortable?

I like wearing jeans but my husband hates them. He says they're really uncomfortable because they're so stiff. He's used to wearing khakis or dress pants, so that's what he sticks to, even on the weekends.

My biggest problem is finding jeans that are long enough. Gap's regular size is long enough, though I prefer tall so I can easily wear with higher heels.

ForteKitty,
I sit like that too at work, without shoes, and it is unseen by others due to the way my desk is facing my office door. I prefer my calves tucked under my thighs though ala Japanese style. I find my jeans comfortable to wear, even when sitting like that. Could it be because of the fit? I am not loyal to any brand names but it takes me forever to find the right pair that looks right and fits right. Khakis 4 days a week, 3 days of jeans. I prefer the look and feel of khakis but not the ironing part. :cheeky:

Sonoma,
I don't think any jeans will feel comfortable due to your condition. :(sad

I also have fibro and sympathize, because I find jeans to feel incredibly uncomfortable on most days. I still wear them, but as soon as I'm back in the house, it's yoga pants to the rescue! I do find that the higher the stretch content, the better it is, as well as keeping washings between wearings at a minimum. That allows them to stretch out some, conform to my shape, and not get that fresh from the wash/dryer tightness back in them - and since I don't wear them for more than a couple hours at any one time, I can get away with several wearings usually before having to wash them.

I love jeans, but have learned to only buy pants with at least 3% spandex, 1-2% does not cut it. Any less than 3%, and they 'bag out' in the butt area after wearing them for a few hours, and I get what my sister and I call the dreaded 'butt cereal' look, where the booty part of your pants looks more like loose lumpy bag of cereal. I have a pair of Volcom jeans I especially love. I like to shrink up my jeans in the dryer and then wear them for a few days before washing.

No.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE jeans, and wear them every day.

But I wish I had other outfits to wear too sometimes...but I never know what that could be...it's like if not jeans, what else?

That's why I like Miss Me, they come in long and extra long. I believe the longs are 33" and they are perfect.

Me! I like to sit with my legs folded under me, bent to the side, or crossed, and jeans don't allow it. Even jeans with stretch feels too stiff. I need to be able to contort myself.

Huh! I'm a contortionist, too, and jeans have always worked for me. That said, I have, like, two brands I'm insanely loyal to. But in those brands - Hudson and Chloe - I have done everything from rock-climbing to flying (and stretching extensively). Go figure!

Ditto Circe. I haven't have an issue with jeans. I do wear leggings too.

Hi,

I have FM too and do find jeans uncomfortable so I only wear them for about half the day. I wear them when I run errands and when I pick my kids up from school and then another hour or two into the night so my husband doesn't come home from work to find me in PJ pants. I wait until after dinner to put on the PJ pants!

Thanks that is good to know since Gap discontinued my favorite Long and Lean line. :wavey:

Just checked my tag, and yep, they are 33" in long. I think regular are 31" and extra long are 35". My husband wears 34x36...talk about a hard size to find.

Nope. Only thing I wear are jeans. I have literally a single pair of pants that are not jeans (excluding pj pants which are all sock monkey print and I wouldn't be caught dead in outside my house!) that I think are tolerable and they're cargos made from cotton twill. I generally feel trapped in anything else bec I feel insanely uncomfy.

Cotton twill is actually what jeans are made of! Usually there is 1-2% stretch involved. Just sayin' :wavey:

Righto, but my other "work pants" aren't so I hate em! And I do need and or want stretch. Bec I like to be able to crawl around.

I am exactly the same. If I'm not in a dress, I'm in jeans. I love them!
i don't do dresses or skirts!

I wear jeans daily. My favorites are Joes and Paige, but I have good luck in Lucky and even Old Navy. Its much harder for me to find cute tops.

Ooooh! I need to check these out! I need a 33" inseam for flats and at least 35" for heels. Hudson inseam sizing is 29.5" for petite, 33" regular and 36" for the "supermodel" (extra long).

I laughed when I read that part, MC. My husband is almost convinced that I only own PJ pants, yoga pants, and sweats. That's all he sees me in when he gets home from work because the first thing I do when I get home is to change into comfy clothes. I get home a few hours before him.

The first thing I do when I get home is take off my pants and bra and change into my comfy old tank top. It's warm in S. CA most of the year so I usually don't wear pants at home. But I don't have kids and my curtains are drawn so neighbors can't see.

I'm wearing my thinner 2% stretch jeans today at work as an experiment and I've been paying attention to what actually bothers me. Been here 7 hours already, 4 hours left. While standing, these jeans fit well at the lower waist and I can pull maybe 2 inches away, and there is a little room in the hips, thighs, and butt, but it's not loose enough to fall off. I can bend and sit on the floor w/o showing crack or skin. However...

I realized that the knees don't stretch as much as yoga pants (obviously), and behind the knees where it folds up really bothers me because I feel the material. It presses against the tendons there. Even tho the material is thin, when they're all bunched up they still measure maybe 6-7mmtotal? (did the pinch test) My legs feel like they're not breathing, especially against my seat. That's the big thing.

I've been sitting with my legs in front of me like a normal person, and it's making me twitchy. I want to sit on my legs, but the material behind my knees bothered me so much I considered cutting a hole there. And maybe in the front too so my knees can breathe.

Another is the crotch part. The crotch is fine while i'm standing and the waist is actually a little loose, but unless I pull the crotch down as I'm sitting, it pushes against me and it bothers me. I usually buy my work slacks a size bigger to accomodate for these things, but if I were to buy jeans one size bigger, they wouldn't look good while I'm standing!

Can't wait to go home and take these off. No more jeans at work!

Oooh, me too! I need a 34" inseam for flats, and it is so hard to find jeans that are long enough. Awesome tips, thanks ladies!

I love a good pair of jeans, actually. They make me feel great if they fit well.

Same here! If my butt looks good, I just feel like its a better day... If my butt AND hair look good, automatic good day;) If you have a Nordstrom Rack near you, check for Hudsons. My local NR has a bunch right now and they're only (?!?) $110--they're usually around $250

If my butt and hair look good AND I get a good deal on something I wanted and adore and that something makes my butt look good...

I find jeans awfully uncomfortable. I too always fold myself up like a pretzel, and it hurts! Always the backs of the knees, and often the waist/hips/crotch depending on the pair.

I'm not really bothered by it, I prefer tailored pants, which are increasingly easier to buy in so many colours (yay)!

ForteKitty, I also walk around the house in a tshirt and knickers (with trackpants in winter)! I CANNOT wear actual clothes at home, I don't know how people do it! Always the first thing I do after walking through the front door.

I am not a fan of jeans, I am on the heavy side and very short, its difficult to find jeans that fit right...however I will say that I will only wear jeans with spandex in them, I cannot stand to feel constricted in any way. I also find jeans with spandex lets you move fairly easily and conform to you in the right places, the hard part is finding them to fit and finding jeans that dont look like "old lady" jeans..so far I have been successful finding them at Kohls, if they do away with their jeans I am screwed lol.

Im going to buy some jeggings (despite the ridiculous name).

It's difficult to find jeans that fit on my small waist and yet accommodate my ample behind. I need stretch!

I find jeans insanely uncomfortable! :knockout: esp the tight-fitting ones and jeans are generally far too hot!!

I love trousers that are tight-fitting but which are also comfortable and allow me to breathe and allow my legs to stretch comfortably.

I have the same build and have had good luck with Levi's. Their "Bold Curve" from the Curve ID line is especially good. The one I have actually runs a size small, but when I sized up it fit perfectly over both my waist and booty.

"Sonoma, I don't think any jeans will feel comfortable due to your condition."

Again, Chrono, you are totally correct. I have a hard time wearing long sleeved shirts, too, due to fibro pain. Ah, it's such a crazy road. My condolences and best wishes to all the other fibro sufferers on this thread and thanks for chiming in.

Goldfish - You have a great way with words, in saying they make you feel like your organs are going to explode and they are always pinching. How very true. Clothes that cause suffering make no sense, right? I have to take more pain killers if I wear jeans which is way crazy, yes? (Time to face that fact my wardrobe should be just yoga pants, skirts and dresses.)

I am terribly envious of all of you who can wear them. I so wish . . . ah, maybe in my next life.

As usual, I learned some things from you bright people. I have to go look up Hudson's, Paige and Joe's and some of the others.

And, hope you are all having a great Thanksgiving, too, btw.

See... THIS is why I know I don't have FM. I have had a bunch of strange, seemingly unrelated symptoms for over a year. It's become much worse in the past six months. The worst symptoms are extreme fatigue, bouts of insomnia and trouble concentrating. I went to a FM specialist and he pushed on a few spots and I told him that I have minor stiffness and a bit of muscle pain, and he diagnosed me with FM. Then of course he wanted me to join his clinical trial. Im just not buying the diagnosis. Everyone with FM seems to suffer from terrible pain and discomfort. I continue to search for what's wrong with me. Its very frustrating because i look healthy and on paper am in excellent health. Sunday before last I slept for all but 3 hours of the day.

It looks like Hudson only has the Hudson+ISKO in super skinny/jeggings but you can try Nordstrom rack, stein mart, loehmanns or someplace like that for other styles.

Don't know how to edit on tapatalk, sorry!

OMG, I do! I'm finding that the fabric just irritates my skin now! SO not comfortable anymore.

I have a couple of pair of 7 for all Mankind jeans that are almost as soft as pajamas. I mean it! They are more of a faded wash, but the denim is incredible. They do have lycra in them too. I have also come across some Citizens of Humanity jeans that have super soft denim as well.

Maybe if you look into high end jeans, you will find a comfy pair or two? The plus is that you will look incredible too! I'm telling you, I love the way I look in higher end jeans vs. less expensive. Something about the cut, pocket placement, and washes that really do something for the way I look.

Oh no, Tuffy. Eeek, sorry. Have they ruled out Epstein Barr, low iron, lymes? Cymbalta is a really nice and easy to take medication for mysterious issues, imo. I took it for a few years, now I take something else.

Will try on some high end ones, House Cat. Thanks so much.

Ya'll are the best.

I don't have low iron, but I have to wait for more testing to rule out Lymes and Epstein Barr. I have an appointment with an infectious disease specialist, but his first available appointment was Feb 28th--made the appt almost two months ago too :O
