Unlikely, I know, but I really want to be able to have plants in my house (non-poisonous, of course) and my one cat in particular (Olivia, the naughty girl in my avatar) will not leave them alone! She is driving me INSANE! Any tips on keeping her from eating them all?

You can buy her kitty grass and hope she'll start eating that instead.

I actually did, but now I'm thinking that's probably the opposite of how to keep her away from the other plants. If she's allowed to eat one, how will she get that she's not allowed to eat all of them? I could keep the kitty grass on the floor and maybe that will help her differentiate?

GAH! I just want plants!

I hear ya, Thing!

We just keep the plants out of reach, it isn't ideal, but it's better than having no plants at all.

collect cool antique bird cages and put the plant inside. Also I have always wanted a wardian case, they are so neat! There are some etsy sellers that offer amazing terrariums but you can make them yourself as well.

Great idea, about the antique bird cage! That could look super-cute! *Sneaks off to ebay to look*

I thought there was no such thing at out of reach of a cat :cheeky:

If you find out let me know! Not even fake plants are safe from my bad girl Alice.

Oh, except for cacti.

Bwahaha! I've seen that before. It totally works - you only have to do it a few times.

You can also buy plug-in pads that give them a tiny shock, cat version of horse fencing. I have some but haven't used 'em yet. A neighbor told me it took 2 times & her cats stopped going where they weren't supposed to. http://www.gooddeals.com/products/93/ScatMat.aspx

Another common method: water & a tiny bit of dish soap, plus A LOT of Hot Sauce sprayed on the plants, including stems & dirt. Good against bugs anyway. It has worked on some of my cats, but I had one who turned out to LOVE hot sauce -- she gobbled those plants even faster!

Or you could spray on Bitter Apple (Granick's), available at PetSmart. That keeps mine from climbing my Christmas tree.

You might try cat spikes, a grid of spiky metal you can lay on the dirt in the pot. Uncomfortable so they don't get on. They don't injure the cat.

I gave up on houseplants with the cat I have now, Joe Don the Terminator. NOTHING, but nothing stops him from doing anything! When he was a kitten I watched him climb the brick facing to the fireplace, actually climbed up the bricks. Like a cartoon, he suddenly looked down, realized how high he was & what he was hanging onto, and went WHOOOAAAAA!!! Dropped like a stone to the floor. If he hadn't thought about it, I guess he would've gotten to the ceiling. Nimrod!

If you pack enough plants on top of the fridge, there won't be any space for the cat to jump up onto.

My suggestion is finding plants cats aren't attracted to. My cat ignores my ficus and my croton. The rest of my plants are in sactuary on the fridge.

The only plant my cat has eaten was part of my cactus.

Try spraying the plants with a mixture of water and cayenne pepper or try that green apple spray which is supposed to taste awful.

We have Molly at work, she loves paper, plants, customer flowers, etc
She responds to loud claps when we are around but double tape works better when the office is busy. We surround the arragement area with double-sided sticky tape to adhere to the cat's paws...she hates it!
We also spray plants with Bitter Apple, as prior post, she still sniffs them from time to time but nothing major.

He's communing with his evil goddess in that pic.

The dummy even eats silk flowers. Double-sided tape is a dynamite idea! I never thought of that, worth a try, sigh.
