Hi Everyone,

Can you tell me what you think of these stones? I am amazed to find out how hard it is to get a good matching pair, which also both perform well on the HCA. I have asked for an idealscope - im yet to see it. Before anyone asks, i havent seen them. They are currently in India, and if i like them, they will bring them to Hong Kong for me to see.

According to the vendor they are H&A. I want to make them into studs.

The price is 6 below rap, which I think is quite a lot. Any advice on amount to bargain by, and what to say? That is IF i get the go-ahead from Team PS!

Many Thanks
Sushi xoxo

Sushi, I cannot make out the measurements of the stones. Can you please write out the table, crown angle, pavilion angle, and depth of each one? I think I can read the diameters.

Thanks! I think where you first wrote "angle", you meant "table", right?

Some do say these shallower stones make good earring and pendant stones. The large tables should make them pretty bright. These are not stones that I would buy to set in a ring, but they should be fine for earrings. I also have G VS earrings, but I did go with traditional ideal cuts.

Presumably your vendor in India has them and can look at them and presumably you've decided that they are a credible outfit that you want to work with or you wouldn't be concerned. Ask THEM to look at them and report on the matching. Make sure they understand your objectives and your criteria but they are your eyes here. If they refuse to do it for whatever reason or they can't convince you that what they're doing is what you want, don't just abandon the stones, abandon the dealer.

Re: Any thoughts on this pair of rounds? Trade price advice

Hi denverappraiser,

Actually I live in hong kong. From what I see most the dealers have offices in Mumbai and also Hk. Some of their catalogue is in India, if you want stones they fly them to Hk to show you, with no obligation to buy. Their office here seems to be legit, but I don't know them.

I got their business card from the Hk jewellery show.

What can go wrong? Presuming I can identify they are in fact the same stones.

Do you think 6 back is fair? As they are shallow I was wondering if the price should be better. I also want them to be as white and sparkly as possible... More important than size really..

Thank you for your advice!!

Many thanks
Sushi

Hi diamond seeker,

Well I'm lost with the difference in look with a shallow or traditional stone. I just narrowed down to these because of the hca, but I do want them as white and sparkly as possible.

You say they are fine for studs, but do you think I can do much better? Out of about 70-100 stones these have performed the best on hca, so I thought that meant they would be the most sparkly!

Any thoughts on the price?

Thanks!!!

Re: Any thoughts on this pair of rounds? Trade price advice

Can you give us the price in US dollars? That way we can look up similar stones for price comparables.

Re: Any thoughts on this pair of rounds? Trade price advice

Hi Diamond seeker,

Sure. The price is 6 under rap. so it is (rap 5500) so $4136 per stone.

I was going to ask for 10 under and for them to throw in the setting so it would be 3960 per stone.

Re: Any thoughts on this pair of rounds? Trade price advice

For consumer shopping purposes, Rap is largely irrelevant.

Here's why,
https://www.pricescope.com/journal/why_isn%E2%80%99t_rapaport_pricing_important_consumers

What is relevant is what similar items will cost you from competitive sources that you are considering. It's easy enough to use the search function here to find dozens of similar stones for sale although these are mostly in the US and you'll have to factor in shipping and whatever 'hastle' factor you want to include. HK is chock full of diamond dealers and it shouldn't be hard to figure out what the competitors are charging. Ask 'em.

The HCA and idealscope questions boil down to deciding what you want, not how to price it. That's where a good relationship with the dealer comes in handy. I know of no dealers who set prices based on HCA results, and this includes Mr. Holloway himself. Use whatever selection criteria you wish but make sure that the dealer you choose understands what they since they are the only ones who can actually see the stone. Both you and they are interested in a successful selection the first time. Returns cost them time and money as well as you and although you should absolutely reserve that as an option until you've seen the stone in person and love it, it's good to do what you can to reduce the chances that you'll need it.

Re: Any thoughts on this pair of rounds? Trade price advice

ok, so ive asked to see idealscope and aset. Ill see what they say. If they start causing trouble, then of course ill run a mile.

They SAY they bring to HK no obligation, so lets see if they change their mind....

Ill keep you posted.

Thanks

Did they even know what an idealscope is? (I don't really think you need both)

Hiya,

BUMP! Any thoughts on the idealscope etc?

thanks!

Re: Any thoughts on this pair of rounds? Trade price advice

idealscopes look good!

Re: Any thoughts on this pair of rounds? Trade price advice

They look like gorgeous 60/60 cuts.

For earrings, you can save some money on clarity if you want, easily VS2 or SI1 in my opinion. Just throwing it out there.

Re: Any thoughts on this pair of rounds? Trade price advice

Thank you!

Im going to see if i can "order" them to see them. Im not sure of how this process works. Im also not sure if i can bargain at all...

Dreamer- i was ok with going down with clarity, but i was more interested in cut. from all the 100 or so pairs i was sent the details of, these come out the best in my budget in hca. i would happily pay less! Also i liked that these faced up big and still have a good cut etc...

but im still open to options! this is such a daunting process!

xoxo

Re: Any thoughts on this pair of rounds? Trade price advice

by the way dreamer, im a real newbie here, but although i understand what you mean by a 60/60 cut, i dont know visually what that means compared to an "ideal" cut or a non 60/60. can you explain please?

Re: Any thoughts on this pair of rounds? Trade price advice

One more thing....

as my ering is a D im scared that the G studs will look dirty... do you think I will be able to tell they are not as white? Im really worried about that.. initially i was looking for no less than F, but these are the best all rounders i have come across so far

thanks!!

xoxo

Re: Any thoughts on this pair of rounds? Trade price advice

I doubt you would notice any tint especially since the studs are worn on the ears. also, color is most noticeable from the side view, and you will be looking at these face on.
