Hi Everyone,

I have a quick question for you all! My boyfriend of two years and I have been starting to shop seriously for rings :)

We both love the look of the round cut diamond. I''ve always wanted a simple solitaire ring, but he finds them a bit too plain. I''ve looked online a bit and I have fallen in LOVE with this Tacori setting:

http://www.tacori.com/Engagement-Rings/10018

I wanted some band detailing to give the ring a little something extra, and this is just perfect (I''ve tried on various Pave and Novo settings, and I''ve realized that although they are gorgeous, rings with diamonds in the bands aren''t quite my style). And my boyfriend loves the look of the Tacori too!!!

The only thing I''m worried about with this ring setting is the price! I''ve read that it might be cheaper to have the ring made by a private jeweler. Any thoughts on this? My boyfriend is hoping to focus most of the ring cost into the diamond rather than the setting (and I agree that this is the best idea). Can anyone recommend rings similar to this that might be a bit cheaper? I''ve seen Novo setting look-alikes on Excel Diamonds and White Flash, so I thought it''d be worth asking!

I''d also greatly appreciate any recommendations if you know of any other unique setting ideas for a solitaire :)

Thanks so much! Happy New Year!

Cheers,
Lily

Sorry, I couldn''t figure out how to post two pictures at once, but here it is from the side:

Hi Lily-

What price range are you looking to be in for the setting? Also, are you looking for gold or platinum?

Thank you all! Both rings are lovely. I''m looking for something with a thinner band (2ish mm) I think.

I''m actually not sure about white gold or platinum--any suggestions? I love the look of white gold, and the platinum rings I''ve tried on seem a bit heavy, but I''ve heard that the rhodium replating can be a pain on white gold rings. So maybe platinum is a better deal in the long run? I feel like platinum is probably the way to go, but I certainly don''t have my heart set on it (and he doesn''t really care either).

I think he is hoping to stay under $6,000 for the ring and the setting, so I''d say he''s looking for a $500-1,000ish setting? Again, he wants to focus more on the diamond itself (we are looking at 1-1.20 carat rings for my size 7 finger).

I am also definitely interested in plain settings too--please let me know if you''ve seen any pretty ones! I think plain white gold/platinum settings that taper in around the diamond are really nice. Basically, I''m looking for anything that best showcases the ring! We''ve talked about buying a plain setting that he can engrave with something sentimental (on the inside of the ring).

I love the look of the Novo--does anyone know if Novo settings without band diamonds exist?

Ok, last question :) Does anyone have a J color ring? He won''t waver on cut (he wants to stay with Ideal), so we are wondering how low we can go on color without sacrificing quality.

Thank you again--this is all so exciting!! :)

If it''s an ideal cut diamond I don''t mind J. Most look very white to me from face up, but next to a whiter diamond, or when looked at on the angle and from the side they can exhibit some warmth. No one would think "her diamond isn''t white" but it might start to bother you. I don''t think it would bother me at all though

, I might even go to a K to get a bigger diamond.

Some people it bothers though, there are a lot of threads on this. Check out dreamer_daschie''s upgrade from a K to G for examples.

If you just like plain settings that taper in towards the diamond you could try the whiteflash legato setting or the Brian Gavin Truth.

Your budget of $500-$1000 for the setting is probably not going to get you a branded setting like Tacori, but I''m sure you''ll find something you love!

Here are some other options, not sure if you''ll like any of these and a few have diamonds:

My fave solitaire setting right now is the Brian Gavin Grace

I''m not sure how to link to another PS photo, but if you do a search it will come up.

Thank you, Bella and Canada Ham :)

That is indeed a gorgeous ring!!! It is very close to what I''m looking for! I''ve come across the Sunburst Solitaire, which is exactly what I am looking for! Next comes the process of looking for the same style that is less expensive! I LOVE the "pinched shank" look--I think the taper in at the diamond makes it look even bigger. LOVE it! What do you all think?

Also, those Js are STUNNING! I''ll have to search around for a side-by-side comparison of a J to an E to see if I can tell any difference.

Thank you again!

how about this setting? it is from brian gavin, i think it is called the "truth" setting:
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-experience-with-brian-gavin-diamonds-bgd.120820/

i also found this setting which is more like the tacori one you originally liked: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/bgd-hand-engraved-antique-style-e-ring.132953/

there are so many different setting choices that it can make your mind boggle!

custom might be the right way for you to go, you can combine elements of the different rings you like to get your perfect setting
