Hello all, so quick story, I''ve dated my future FI'' to be approx. 3 years (known since the 5th grade, I''m 28 now). And I"m ready to take the plunge. I still have to ask to parental units, but knowing them for so long and I''m like family, so I think I''m good on that end (crossing fingers still). Now I went to a local jewelry spot (well known through cali), to find my loose diamond. I know my setting: Mark Schneider "Classic" / white gold http://www.markschneiderdesign.com/detail.asp?recid=23&ringname=Classic
Now to the dilemma, the diamond.... Like I said went to a diamond jewel round here and here''s the specs:

Cert: EGL/USA
Cut: Radiant
Weight: 1.55 ct
Shape and Cut Measurements: CUT COR. RECT. MOD. BRILL. 7.09 x 6.35 x 4.22 mm
Depth: 66.5
Table: 64.0
Crown: 9.0
Pavillion: 53.7
Girdle: Medium polished
Cutlet: None
Polish: Very Good
Symentry: Good
Clarity Grade: VS1
Color Grade: F
Flourescence: None
Price TAG: $12,500

How does this sound/look to you guys/girls (I tried to post pictures, but I''m running out of time at work, sorry)? In addition, should I ask to look @ the H&A''s? Can I ask?
It''s a beautiful diamond... One last question, would Mark Schnieder shop get annoyed if I bring another diamond from a different place to get set by his shop, or should I do this the other way around, buy the setting, take it to the place where I purchased the diamond and have them set it.

thanks all, as I said, your help is very much appreciated.
Jon

Not sure about the diamond without photos. EGL certs aren''t as popular on PS as GIA or AGS ones. The reason is that, they are a little lax in their grading. So the F/VS1 you saw graded by EGL might be graded as G/VS2 by GIA or AGS. And you don''t want to pay for something you are not getting.

You should buy the diamond first, as the ring should be made to accomodate it. The ring designer should not have any problem with you bringing your own diamond. If he does, maybe you should look for another setting.

You should look at all the shapes that your FFI might like. H&A diamonds face larger than other cuts and you can''t beat the sparkle! They are pricier, though, because they are the most popular. Fancies are a little less expensive, but face up smaller.

Here are several nice ones, rounds and cut corner squares (like square radiants) from GoodOldGold:

Hi Jon,

We really need pics to be able to help as radiants can''t be evaluated by the numbers, so post them if you can please. If you have seen this diamond and love it though, then it is well worth consideration!
