Any details on my OEC ring?

I bought this ring a few years ago on eBay for my mom and it was sold as an Art Deco OEC ring. This ring is technically mine now since my mom's arthritis really messed up her fingers and sizing it like 3 sizes would pretty much destroy the engraving.
Can anyone give any details? I'm just curious, thank you!

I could be totally wrong but from the pictures it almost looks like the band was added later on, looking at it in person does it seem that way to you? It's almost like the top of the ring is a different style from the band and they were married together at some point.

Is that an "F" stamped on the inside after the gold mark? Any other marks inside the band?

It is a pretty ring!

Band looks like a later addition. The top could have been a brooch in a previous life. Is there anything under the three squarish flower things at each end? Is the underside of the ends identical? I sorta make out something on one end but not the other, looks like they might have used that from another piece to cover up the markings from pin parts?

I agree that the band is not original to the ring. I’m not sure it’s a pin conversion, however. The underside appears to have a slight curve, lengthwise, which would argue more for a ring that’s been removed-shanked than a brooch. And given how large the top of the ring is, I could understand why a wider band Would make the band more wearable. Also, the elaborate basket doesn’t make sense for a brooch either, although it could have been added later.

But what really puzzles are the design elements on the underside! Those don’t really make sense in either a ring or a brooch scenario. I’m wondering whether the original piece might have been a fastener or clip of some sort - maybe to fasten a cape or stole?

Thank you for all the information, it's so fascinating reading your deductions/conclusions! I'll post more photos of the details when I'm home, the camera keeps focusing on specific parts of the ring because there are too many details.

Agree with everyone else, the shank was unexpected. The three flowers on each end seem to be cut off in a somewhat brutal fashion on three corners. Wonder if it might have been a big brooch, middle of a bow perhaps. Might work for section of a bracelet too.

I tried taking better photos of the underside.

I almost wonder if someone soldered that band to the top because the ring was sentimental because to my eyes they are not a good match. It would make sense though if that was a relatives wedding band and that was the reason it was used. Just thinking out loud.

I'm going with a brooch or pin conversion and adding a band as well. The slight curve could have been original even or done by a jeweler after. The sides in particular look brooch like to me.

Could it potentially have been an ornate clasp in its former life, intended for a triple stranded pearl necklace?
