Hi. I already posted this on the other forum- not sure which was better-sorry for the repeat. Been looking around this site all morning and love it. Was wondering if anyone can help me out regarding my ring. I received this a few weeks ago- very exciting and I LOVE it. Don''t know a whole lot about it''s history though. My fiance was told it is from early 1900''s (came from an estate jeweler). It is platinum and has an old mine cut (1.7 carot). I have not seen this setting before and was wondering if anyone knew much about it. Thanks!

Get it appraised. There’s no way to give a straight answer without actually seeing the piece. Ask your appraiser when you book your appointment if they are experienced with antique and vintage jewelry. It’s a little different than doing insurance replacement work on new purchases.

Hi - gorgeous ring! I love the swoopy 8 prongs!!!! That''s not likely an OMC though - it''s likely an OEC. Old European Cut. They''re round... OMCs are cushion shaped.... I''d love to see a billion pics of it though!!! please????

You can find a pricescope recommended gemologist for an appriasal by going to the resources tab and then appraisers, and then your zip code. By the way, your ring is very beautiful! Love the antique setting.

Thanks for the comments- and compliments! It actually came with the paperwork and appraisel. No info on the setting though or exact date. It doesn''t state the actual cut at all, just that it is "tranparent, round, brilliant cut..." along with a lot of other stuff. Hmm...I guess I can take it somewhere else for more input. The jeweler told my fiance it was an old mine- but I was not totally convinced either.
Thanks again.
More pics included...the diamond appears yellowish in this pic- not so at all in person. Bad camera and photographer.

I love that ring! I don''t have any info for you either, just had to tell you that it''s absolutely gorgeous!

Lovely ring. Best wishes. Please do get a detailed appraisal and insure it. It''s for your protection. And of course we on PS need to know if it is OEC or a transition cut.

In this photo it looks like a prong is pulled away from the diamond. Is this a photo illusion?

You have a gorgeous ring, but I noticed a loose prong in that picture. You might want to get that tightened so it doesn''t catch on anything.

How funny, and embarrassing slightly. Yeah, it is loose. Nice picture I took- very detailed! Planned to take it in to get it tightened this week. It is insured already though- so I feel better. Thanks.

Don''t feel bad. We just wanted you to know so that you could get it fixed.

No big deal, those things happen from time to time. Just thought it would be better to get fixed now than to worry about it later.

Got the prongs tightened. No big deal at all really, although I was slightly hesitant st first. It''s funny, the more I wear the ring, the less freaked out I am about everything I do with it. I actually have even slept with it on lately. Funny.

Its an absolutely gorgeous antique ring. Very unique

Lucky you! and the center stone looks huge for an antique ring. I usually see smaller diamonds in such rings.

Lovely ring I love it

I agree with everyone else to have it appraised so you can have all the specs on it. On the yellow tint I might be wrong, but I think a lot of the older cuts show a little more color than their modern day cousins. However I love the chunky facets that an OEC has.

Yeah, the cuts are chunky. I love the sparkle- almost looks fake in a way ( I swear, I think people think that!)- but I really do love the old cuts.
